Now that I've decided to get a .22 can and have purchased a couple thousand rounds of Remington .22LR Subsonics.  Where do I go to have the barrels on my 10/22s threaded.

I'd also like to pick up a new .22LR pistol.  I have a couple old High Standards which I love and can't see cutting.

Any suggestions on a poodle shooter?  I'm thinking Ruger 22/45 or Mark II

Mark McWillis at TROS.

He usually has a table set up at the portland shows.  Sometimes his turnaround is slow, but he does excellent work.  GemTech recommends him.

I've had both Mark at TROS and Mike at Tornado Technologies thread stuff for me. Both of these were superb jobs. Mark has been working with me on an issue with a Lone Wolf barrel(s) being out of spec and has been very very helpful in doing so. TROS is not the fastest option, but it WILL be done right. I had Mike at Tornado do a Remington 700 for me which TROS won't do. Mike can thread the barrel without removing it from the receiver which is what I needed. It also was done in under a week.

Rotor Demon also has a barrel of mine that he is hacking on. Actually his method of threading has a bunch of merit to it. He's currently working on making a 20" HBAR into a 4.5" dedicated .22 barrel for me. So far his work is looking very nice. It'll be some time before I get it assembled into an upper to put rounds down range with it.

Great feedback- Thanks.

How much is this going to set me back?  I have no clue how much labor goes into this and I'm certain the machining isn't cheap.

Ive been planning for a while to go with Tornado-Technologies for a couple thread jobs.  Ive heard great things about them. they somewhat local, competative priced, quick turn-around, great CS and a website!

TROS charges $60 for a basic thread if you send him just the barrel.  If shipping is involved don't forget that.  He's pretty cool too.  He misplaced my contact info and when I called him, apologized and sent me my barrel for free for the inconvenience.  He is a real standup guy.

Basically, for a stock 10/22 bbl he will chop it to just ove 16" if desired, thread and recrown.  I think he also includes a protector.  I'm sure it costs more if you want to have the front sight moved back.

ETA: Im sure a phone call would clarify this

I got mine done about a year ago.

If he's not doing outside work, WTF is he doing at a gunshow?

That's what I've been told. With the ATF approval times so short now, they are concentrating on getting as much product out as possible.

Please please please...just go with Mike Stannard of Tornado.

I have done the TROS route and it was slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

It took three months and countles calls to get it back.

Mike took only 1 week to thread my remi 700 and also do a barrel install for my ar15.

The man is quick and he has the BEST tools to do the job right and correct and CONCENTRIC for accuracy.

Everyone uses lazy tools to do it.

Mike uses machines I never knew existed DEDICATED to making sure barrels are concentric or anything is concentric when putting two and two together.

Roger that - thanks.  I think I'll thread both of my 10/22s and go pick up a Ruger Mark II with the intention of threading.

Oh, yeah.  He does make products.  Kinda forgot about that...
