I need to get my lower receiver engraved for my SBR. Who in the Clackamas – Portland area do you Guys recommend?

BYE Engraving on Barbur Blvd. did some for a few of us. I will be going there again for my next one(s) as well.

Sorry, had to do it.

I think Pat (PCArms) mentioned knowing someone who does laser engraving.

Bye will also do laser engravings, but it won't be deep enough to satisfy the BATF.

After it's engraved, I assume there's bare metal where the engraving was done. How do you guys finish the bare metal to keep rust and such out?

I moly coated over the area I had done. Looks good to me.

This is probably a really stupid, very newbie question... but how do you moly-coat? Does it require a lot of equipment, or is it something you just spray on?

What is the cost to have BYE Engraving do it?

Or you could just not engrave it at all....

Or you could just not engrave it at all....

If that's the case, why even register it with the BATFE?

And no one can help with moly-coating?

Original manufacure needs to be engraved....thats not you, that would be bushmaster, colt, mega, etc.....which is already on the lower.

Many people do not believe it is required.

"Many people" will not be going to prison for you.

So, what do you want to know about Moly-Coating?

Brownell's sells some nice Oven-Bake, aerosol can, stuff.

But I have had better luck with  John Norrell's and a cheap air brush.
(Don't use his "AIR-DRY", it is too GLOSSY, and runs bad)

I've seen letters going each way on the issue....

this was posted in the Class 3 forum...

EDITED TO ADD:  As WS says, there are letters going both ways.  The prudent thing to do would be to either get a letter from ATF addressed to you personally that says you do not need to engrave your name/city/state, or just engrave it.  If it's a SBR AR, engraving would be far simpler since you can always sell the SBR upper and keep the lower (since it didn't cost that much anyway).
