| I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions for a gunsmith in the Portland-metro area who could remove a permanently attached muzzle break that's been welded on. I would prefer not to go to Revalation Arms, as he was the guy that decided to place a bead of weld on it in the first place. Thanks! |
| I dunno about portland, but the guy i go to is down on the west side of salem. Its Great West Gunsmithing, and his name is John. He has done some work on a Mini-14 (barrel chop and thread, trigger job, installed a sling mount for a bipod, etc) that i used to have, and i need to get my glock down to him some time in the not so distant future. Great guy and he does really good work and is pretty quick as long as you dont mind the drive. linky |
| This guy is in South Salem, but he's very good too: www.majornyneguns.com/ |
Rob is a great guy, rest assured he does quality work and is an excellent shooter. |
Unfortunately, yes. I brought it to him during the AWB to remove the mini y-comp and permanently install a KKF A3 tac-brake. I expected him to do it as the instructions that came with the brake described. Came back to found he welded the thing on. Wasn't too happy, but didn't care too much during the AWB. For awhile now I've wanted a Phantom and am finally ready to do something about it. I really don't want to buy a new barrel, as this is a nice Bushy barrel with less than 2k rounds fired through it. I guess if I have to I can buy a new barrel, but that seems stupid and expensive seeing that I have a perfectly good barrel right now. Sorry for the novel, but that is the whole story. |
Well if its weleded all the way around the best bet it to cut it off and rethread. Yo umay be able to turn the weld off and save the threads but would likely have a small cutout where the weld was. |
Think a machining shop could do it? |
If you stripped the barrel down I dont see why anyone with a lathe couldnt do it. Just come in slow check frequently to see if your thru the weld. CH |
LOL! I would pass on the angle grinder. |
Yea I was kidding. Guess I'll call some gunsmiths and see what they can do. |
If you dont find sombody LMK. I may be able to help you out. |
