I don't know if you have been following this case, but IMHO, its of interest to us. Firefox sells chemicals used to make fireworks. The CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) told them they had to stop -- for safety reasons. The legislation CPSC operates under really doesn't give them this power, but they assumed it anyway. The court case following just finished - with Firefox losing See: www.skylighter.com/skylighter_info_pages/article.asp?Item=90 Why is this of interest to us? Well, next step could be to use the same "powers" to limit powder to only "ATF licensed" people, then Ammo itself ? BTW Getting an ATF license looks simple -- and it is -- all except the storage bunker they require. ATF don't require this bunker for storing the products Firefox sold, but its a requirement to get the license. |
Same thing happend to a company that sold chemistry sets and supplies. They were also developing a conversion kit to make a car run on hydrogen, as seen here. Kinda lame if you ask me. Looks like Ma guberment needs to protect us from ourselves in the name of terrorism or whatever their excuse is.

ATF don't require this bunker for storing the products Firefox sold, but its a requirement to get the license The Bunker is the killer in this deal and they know it, you have to have a lot of land to protect your neighbors. I have talk to them more than once about this. Thanks for the update. I'll pass it along. Very sad, I have been making fireworks as a hobby for a long time. |
They did talk to them, and then published a news release saying that Tanner had been "convicted" and no longer sold chemicals -- which was not the case, he agreed not to sell individual chemicals to make fireworks, not to stop selling Tannerite. After Tanner suing them for a retraction of their news release, they finally caved and did so (in a half-hearted sort of way: link After now establishing the principle that they can restrict the sale of items which have uses other than the manufacture of "illegal" fireworks, I expect them to expand this and go after other things that we care much more about. |
I see. I fear you may be right in your last statement there |
There is a potential way around this. You have to have a bunker for the license. There doesn't appear to be any requirement that YOU own the bunker, that it be on YOUR land, or even in YOUR state. The chemicals we are talking about do not have to be stored in a bunker, even if you have one -- thats for explosives -- fireworks are exempted. So, one (empty) bunker somewhere, to which you have access would probably be enough to satisfy the ATF requirement. Worth looking at... |

" So, one (empty) bunker somewhere, to which you have access would probably be enough to satisfy the ATF requirement" Hmmm, food for thought. The Agent I talked with stated I needed to own the land and have 400 yards on all sides away from everyone for a bunker to be legal. Seemed a little extreme to me.he As for me, life is too short and after thirteen years of making sparklers, smokes and rockets, I have changed hobbies. Back to collecting firearms and running and backpacking into the high lakes with my kids. h What kind of world will we be leaving to our children when what was once, used to express our freedom, is now regulated out of fear of what might or might not ever happen. |
Hey, maybe Patty will lease out some land? |
|
wonder if the army would lease out one of their empties out there in Umatilla? got 4 walls, a roof, lingering odor of nerve gas, an explosive makers dream. Hazmat suit and resperator sold seperately. But seriously, these agencies need to be policed the hell out of. this is just plain getting out of hand and for really no good reason. I mean illegal fireworks???? give me a f'ing break. how many deaths and injuries happen because some numbnut decides to build his own fireworks? I bet you more people are hurt running with scissors or cutting tomatoes at Applebees than building and lighting off illegal fireworks. Like I said before the CPSC needs to go back to testing bike helmets and car seats, not harassing companies like this about illegal fireworks . Like Carlos Mencia said "The world is full of stupid people and theres nothing to eat them."

That is correct. You do not have to own the storage facility. You can have a rent or lease agreement for one. I've had extensive conversations with BATFE about this. There is also one other way to deal with the storage requirement (that was suggested to me by BATFE). If someone is really interested in obtaining a license, contact me and I'll share the details. I'd rather not make it public at this point, lest BATFE squash that workaround, too. |
