| I am going to the one-day course tomorrow. Anyone else going? |
That's the truth. I didn't enjoy the IPSC match. I got stuck on a squad of race gunners who constantly joked around about having to shoot with newbies. One of the guys kept mentioning about Canadian RO's being nazi. The same guy threatened me with mutiple DQ's on one of the stages. When one of the racegunners broke the 180 degree rule, several of them laughed. That was the one and only IPSC I will shoot in. I would rather spend my pistol time with the Speed Steel bunch. No kidding! I tried to order a replacement from SigArms -- they only sell packages of spare parts on the website, so I tried Brownells - they sell them, but are out of stock of the Sig parts, but do have a third party replacement -- so I ordered them ... of course, the postage is more than the 4 screws |
SIG is a PITA. I ended up selling my Mosquito because they would not sell a threaded barrel without a complete gun. I now have a Walther P22. |
Yes, anyone can take the course - its free for TCGC members, $30 for non members (from memory...). Unless you want IPSC certification, there really isn't much point to taking the course, other than that its interesting, for non-members. You still have to be accompanied by a member to use the action range, and only one of the group (i.e. the member, or one of his guests) can be shooting at one time. Yes, we did get the stickers. |
If you are not a member you will be issued a certification card in place of a sticker. |

Actually, members get both (card and sticker) -- the sticker is fairly meaningless if you go to an IPSC competition away from TCGC, in which case you produce the card -- the sticker is just to free you up from having to carry the card when at TCGC. Anyway - irrespective of cards and stickers, or members vs non-members, this is (IMHO) an excellent course for anyone wanting an intro IPSC, and even to anyone wanting some basic instruction and practice on drawing from a holster and shooting -- which most conventional ranges don't allow. Its NOT oriented to defensive use, but some of the skills are applicable. If I had not been a member, and had paid $30, I would have felt that I had value for my money. Highly reccommended. BTW, if you are interested in doing this, or even may be, get your name on the list. There is a long (and growing) waiting list. |
