Proof that they will claim anything without any actual knowledge of scripture...  Luke 2:1 states that they left their home in Nazareth to go to Bethlehem to be counted in a census that required they be in their home cities (there are questions about this since no record can be found of a Roman census at that time).

A buddy works for a company in the 'American Flag' building and sent pics from the office window... bunch of fools.  As I understand it Senator Isakson has an office location there.  Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

There have been many things not supported by archeological record, until they were.  The existence of David, the existence of Belshazzar, the existence of Jericho, and more.  All have been used by critics (some for a very long time) to disprove this or that aspect of the Bible's record.   Belshazzar was unknown to secular history until the nineteenth century.  Critics discounted the reliability of Daniel because of this.  Those same critics tried to date Daniel in the second century BC, rather than the sixth century BC.  Of course, since Belshazzar was unknown to history (from any source throughout all of those centuries), it leaves one to wonder where a second century author would have learned about him.  Now we have archeological evidence of his existence, leading credence to a sixth century BC date for the writing of Daniel (after all, since it turns out he is real, what is the likelihood somebody would have accurately used that name four centuries later when he was unknown to history for all of those centuries???)

Luke mentions in verse two that this was the "first."  He is well aware of the second (he wrote Acts 5:37, too).

There is some evidence that may point to an earlier census.  There are arguments in favor of it and against it.  A lack of secular records outside of Luke is not conclusive, however, any more than a lack of secular records regarding other things that have since been discovered should have been conclusive (even though critics argued such).  It may be that more solid evidence of this "first" census is yet to be discovered.  Here is some interesting reading of the arguments for and against, divided up into various lines, without too much bias one way or another like most internet pages devoted to this issue.
