I know we have some folks here in the industry. What do you think will happen to the industry product wise if the HPA is passed and its no different than buying a pistol?
I am thinking it will become extremely competitive and there will be lots of Sub <$200 cans. Lots of knockoffs and less innovation. Less high cost materials in construction and more focus on light, quiet, and cheap even if it isn't "military grade." Over time there will be a positive effect, but it'll take some time as most companies will be focusing on quantity over quality. There will be more off the wall designs introduced. As a buyer, suppressors are about the only thing I buy top tier as I am pretty much stuck with them. One you can buy the new model and sell it on ODT if you don't like it, it'll change things quite a bit. |
| Same as every other industry. Large scale production of shit to mid tier products to sell in bulk to rubes who will almost never use them or occasionally use them. The top tier makers will sell plenty as well. Tons of dudes out there who still buy the best they can afford as they understand buying a quality tool is always better. |

I would assume an initial 6-12 month backorder of all mid to top tier suppressors as there would be a mad dash to get them. Then as things calm down, you would probably have some lower quality options just like you have for gun accessories. Not everyone needs or wants top tier products, so that is why you have $50 optics and $3000 optics for all types of people.
I would like to see this pass as most of Western Europe allows suppressors that are unregulated, so it would be a nice fit here. |

har!
osha and epa will REQUIRE that all firearms come with 'mufflers' in order to protect the children from loud noise. you will have to have your 'muffler' inspected once a year to validate it provides the required decibel reduction for you class of firearm before you are allowed to get a hunting license. manufacturers will compete on price/quality/noise reduction. you will be able to buy a warranty and service contract (clean and replace baffles every 1000 rounds). and the government will get their cut via the regulations on noise reduction. |

Quoted:
"Buy once, cry once" - Bookhound Yeah well Many of my Cans are 5-10 years old and they are ancient in Suppressor years. Like other items, suppressors are perishable items with diminishing performance over time compared to the status quo. Their manufacturers abandon making mounts for them and have no intent of upgrading them in many cases. I don't agree with buy once , cry once. I buy average and often I would imagine the tubes will be the registered or controlled part. That might mean that you could buy tubes like stripped uppers and constantly upgrade the internals. Has anyone read the details of the law? |
