Just got back from Wilson Shoals WMA with the oldest daughter. Haven't been there in some time.
I wanted to run the snot out of some magpul mags in the G19 and see how a new G19 I picked up, ran. So magpul mags and a shit load of tula ammo. Oh and my G42 and a box of tula...just to know the cobwebs off.
I'm setting up the targets (because it's not legal to shoot at the berm when function testing) while the daughter is loading up the mags. I slapped 2 boxes of 9mm and a box of 380 on the table and asked her to load the magpul mags. I get back and she's pretty much done.
So the range goes hot, I shoot the G42 - no problems. Run through 4 mags without issue. I shoot a mag through the G19 and have a failure to feed. Tape rack bang. Fine.
Daughter picks up the G19, slaps a magpul mag in it and it becomes a single shot on her. I though she was just limp wristing it, but looking at her shoot, she's doing everything right. She learned malfunction drills fast! haha. Second mag, same thing. I pull the mag and it looks like the follower is binding up, because the rounds are not feeding to the feedlips...they appear to be getting stuck. I slap the mag on the table and out pops a round.
By now I'm curing my cheap ass for finally running into an issue with steel cased ammo and cursing magpul for shitty mags...never thought I'd run into a crappy magpul mag.
Old man next to us comes over and offers to let me try his shield - I tell him I'd gladly offer to use my ammo, but the crap isn't reliable and it's jamming up my G19. He grabs a mag, looks at it and pulls out a round - it's a goddamned 380 round!!!
Daughter loaded all the mags with 380. I never bothered to look - just assumed she knew what she was doing, because she'd loaded mags for me so often before this. Needless to say, I felt like a total ass. I didn't blame it on the daughter though...shit happens, but look at what's in a mag if you didn't load it yourself.
Once I got that figured out, all the mags ran fine and both pistols ran like champs.
We also put about 200 rounds through her M&P Sport1  - all tula...not one problem. Good range ammo.

So there's my dumbass moment of the day.

I do that occasionally too. I get 380 brass mixed in with my 9mm and my press doesn't care. Just wont go boom.

I have even seen people shoot 9mm out of a 40 before.

I'm willing to bet they were surprised when they picked up their brass!
Saw a youtube vid where a guy shot .380 out of a G19, 9mm out of a G23 and .223 (with ductape wrapped around it) out of a G19. All worked (didn't cycle the slide of course and the .223 had no power at all).
Very tough platform.

Loverly!

I've seen 9mm in a .40, .380 in a 9mm, and .40 in a .45ACP.  The last one was hilarious.  The guy chambered a round in his 1911, it slid down the barrel and out the muzzle to fall on the ground.

With those magoul mags and steel case ammo you can get the same problems even with the correct ammo.

Yup, I've seen that they bind a little, but it didn't cause any problems...once I had the correct ammo in them. Definitely not carry mags. Hell, I won't even use ETS mags for carry and they seem higher quality than the magpuls. OEM only!

At least it didn't result in KB'ing a suppressor. Years ago at a suppressor shoot a couple was setup next to me and the wife was loading up Glock 21 mags and managed to stick a .40 round in there, it somehow got in the ammo can full of loose ammo, and when the gun didn't go bang he racked the gun and fired another round setting off the 40 sitting in the suppressor.

I have seen 7mm Rem Mag fired out of a 300 Win Mag... It was on the Wilson Shoals range also.
The guy was not hitting his target, and the brass blew out to make a very short necked 300 Win mag.

Wasn't me! We had one bloke on the line today with a 300 win mag. Rattled my teeth every shot - and he was on the other side of the line!
What kind of sociopath shows up at the range at 9AM with that monster of a rifle...geeze

I've done 9 in a 40. Funny thing was it ran just fine! Only noticed it when I picked up the brass!

I'v shot 9mm in a 40 too, but it was only 1 round because it malfunctioned.

Had a 380 case find it's way into my 9mm brass and it went into the gun too. Luckily, gun would not go into battery and it jammed really bad so I figured it out.

It happens the more you shoot and reload!

Don't feel bad. I have a container on my reloading bench of cases fired in the wrong gun. I collect them as I come across them.

9mm in .40S&W
.40 S&W in .45ACP
,223 in 7.62x49

I've even injected myself TWICE in a firing line where the shooter was shooting the wrong ammo and the Instructor (term used loosely) was not picking up on it.

I've shot a .40 in a .357 Sig.

I would not think that the round would even chamber.
Do you mean 357 sig in a 40?

I had a customer who "had" a .40 that he loaded a 9mm in his magazine.....the 9mm casing did not eject and the next round pushed the empty casing past the chamber.

Bulged barrel and broken frame resulted...

Pretty impressive to see the casing sticking out of the muzzle though:

I have done that before. I got pissed when I tried to load .45 into a .40 mag and it wouldn't fit.
