What kind of sear did Fleming use to convert AR15's..??
I'm familiar with his HK sears but know nothing about his M16 sears. There's one listed on Bower's board. I didn't know such a beast existed before tonight and Google was no help. td |
| I just took a look at that ad and I have to say that no way that is a floating sear. The receiver has had a 3rd hole drilled and is now a machinegun receiver permanently. If the form reflects the registration is for the sear then that gun has some real pedigree issues. |

That looks like the best of both worlds IF it is good with the ATF. A sear that uses a pin but without being married to the lower.
As long as you kept the sear and the lower together, would that be permissible? In case of lower failure, could you then destroy original lower and drill new lower for user with sear? My guess is that will not pass an inspection with ATF, separated it equals an illegally modified lower and a good registered sear. |

To the best of my knowledge this is correct, by drilling a hole in the receiver to accept a sear, he has now made a machine gun. All of the DIAS that I have seen are just that "Drop In" auto sears. Only timing issues.. I have an SP1 RR.. which also has a hole drilled for the sear, but its an RR.. I would be skiddish of this... Heck there was a guy selling a Colt 614 for about 17.5 recently... Unless you want the DIAS option. |

I have heard the term married several times and I understand that it effectively means that the sear must only be used with a certain receiver or serial numbered part.
Is the serial number of the sear listed as the serial number of the NFA device and then there is a note on the form 4 that lists the serial number of the receiver that the sear must be only be used with? Thanks |

As soon as you drill a sear hole in a new lower you have created an illegal new machinegun in the eyes of the ATF. Quoted:

You have to drill a new hole in a FN-FNC to in stall a machine gun sear. I don't think the sear is married to receiver because the gun's SN isn't listed on the form 4. td |
