I took my son down to Fort Benning yesterday to visit the museum.  It was my first trip and I would say it is something you should not miss.

We shot a round on the EST2000 rifle range.  That's cool stuff.  I only wish they would let you have some sighter targets before going into the actual timed shoot.

Is the whole museum open now? Last time I was there some of the lower floor exhibits were not open yet

It was last spring, but when I picked up my first successful swimmer from OSUT, we went by and saw the whole place. The little monster even beat me in a shooting contest up stairs! He enjoyed that. I would recommend it, very educational and entertaining at the same time.

I did some work on the new base hospital and spent a free day there a few years ago.  The museum is awesome.  I definitely recommend even if you have to drive a few hours to get there.

The two larger simulations were closed.  One gallery on the 1st floor was closed, but I'm not sure what it is.  Maybe Revolutionary War?  I checked their website and we visited every gallery they list so maybe it's a new addition.

It is a very impressive facility and museum. My unit is at FT Benning and I try to go through there every year or so - I always find it inspiring.

The new museum is definitely cool, but I wish they'd brought more of the cool shit from the old museum over too.

It's all about the money. Additional donations are needed to build out and open the Civil War and previous exhibitions. More money = more cool stuff. The foundation operates the museum solely from donations (Zero tax dollars or Gov't money is given to them). http://www.nationalinfantrymuseum.org/donate/

All the stuff from Knox is sitting in storage too. Until the funds are raised to build the Nat'l Armor and Cavalry Museum (which will be adjacent to the Nat'l Inf Museum). http://www.armorcavalrymuseum.org/

I'm surprised they need so much money to showcase a pair of worn out boots and a chiropractors bill.
