wtf, wander off for 5 minutes and I come back to nothing.
Who all is going? |

Was deemed to have BOTD material, then the OP got in a pissing match and lost. I'll be at Dragon*Con starting Thursday afternoon. Baen Books is hosting a book launch party Thursday at 7pm in the Westin for _Islands of Hope and Rage_ by John Ringo and _A Call To Duty_ by David Weber and Timothy Zahn. Free admission, snacks, books for sale, cash bar, if anybody is interested. John has the only semi-realistic approach towards a "zombie apocalypse" with his series, an engineered bioweapon, with an idea the folks at the CDC had not previously considered... |

Quoted: When is the parade? Taking the boys to that Saturday morning, 10am, get there early to find a spot to watch it. I'm considering joining the Baen Books group, hoping some stuff I ordered comes in by then, otherwise I'll just wear MARPAT-type pants and a Ringo's Redshirt t-shirt. |
|
I tried to take the boys 2 years ago. Downtown was a nightmare. It was crowded to the point that you couldn't answer your phone, because you couldn't move your arms to get your phone to your ear.
When people say to get there early... I'm guessing 8am for a 10am parade. ?? |

Saturday only is $50, Sunday only is $40. Four day pass is $150. Don't know how much the three day pass is. Quoted:

Well, today is Tuesday. After that is Wednesday, then Thursday, then the convention officially starts Friday (although many of us start partying Wednesday or Thursday). Quoted:

A lot of folks save up all year to be able to go, I'll drop about $1000 on a hotel room for four nights so I don't have to drive in and out each day (or worry about how much I'm drinking). Hotels sell out within minutes of opening registration. An Eternal Membership is $2000, I have friends who bought one when it was $300. For that $150, you can go to any number of panels, free concerts (mostly Goth and Celtic, but Jefferson Starship played last year or the year before), special event night at the GA Aquarium, the Parade, Costume Contest, etc... |

I didn't realize it was so big. I go to a few road racing venues each year and usually spend less than $500 for Thursday through Sunday including travel and lofting. Just never imagined a convention cost like that. |

Over 70,000 paying members, hundreds of panels, hundreds of guests (authors, TV/movie stars, wrestlers, bands, publishers, video game developers, special effects experts, etc)... It's one of the biggest fan run conventions in the world (the Comic Cons are sponsored by industry companies). It takes up seven host hotels and the Atlanta Apparel Mart, with arrangements made with other hotels for overflow. The Marriott Marquis and Hyatt Regency in particular with be jam-packed from about 7am to 2am each day of the convention (I'm going to one concert Monday at 1:30am). |

No. The parade is huge. It will last about 90 minutes. It goes right down Peachtree to International and then down Courtland. The map is on the DragonCon website. Quoted:

What is the suggested arrival time to grab a spot? 0900? |

Quoted: What's the skinny on weapons at dragon con? Concealed means concealed obviously but are we talking metal detectors or just ticket checkers? Too crowded for metal detectors. Anything that looks like a functional weapon needs to be checked by Con security and peace bonded, but they aren't searching people. Believe me, Con security knows there are armed guests, just keep anything concealed and don't be stupid. I was teaching a CCW class with one of the shift leads for DragonCon security last weekend ;-) |
