| Has anyone seen richierich? |
| I did not see the post in question but I do know Rich's MO from the past couple of years. Rich has never before posted anything that I felt crossed the line into advertising. If someone asked a question about someone having a specific product he would answer. He never crossed the line in my opinion. And I co-own a competing gun store that is close to Cherokee Gun & Pawn so I am probably more sensitive to that kind of thing than the average person. So if I didn't get butt hurt over it I don't see why anyone else would. If Rich is gone permanently it is a shame because he was a great poster with good info and always willing to help. If he is gone not only it is a loss because he is gone but a loss because it signals a new way of doing things that is downgrade from previous HTF operation. But that seems to be happening here a lot lately. |

Quoted: Surely this can't be for real? Did he really get banned? I have only seen him answer specific questions about who might have something on stock. That's not advertising, that is helping out others in the GaHTF!!!! Mods, can we get the truth on this? "indefinite lock status"

I'm not buying it. must be more than meets the eye. I will reserve judgement for the time beeing. I have met Rich on several occasions he has been nothing but extremely helpful and just a nice guy to be around. he is one of the good guys, I hope he didn't get "indefinate lock" just for answering a question of who had something in stock..... hopefully it wasn't my thread that did that. |

I refuse to believe we have mods that friggin stupid. I mean if he got locked because somebody asked which store has something in stock and he said "we do over here" the moderator would have to be as dumb as a f'ing sack of hammers to ban him for that. If that is the case, you shouldn't be allowed to ask anything along those lines because somebody will benefit from it!!! |
| I like having the store employees in our community because it's easier to find stuff, which encourages buying local, if we know who has it. Saves time from either driving or calling around to multiple stores. Also, helps keep the stores honest because they will surely get blasted like Adventure Outdoors does all the time if they provide crappy service. I've never once felt like I was being "advertised" too in this forum. We should encourage support for our local stores here.Just my .02. |

I'm not going to discuss his his lock or anything that's been discussed concerning it, as that is between he and I. Here is how things stand with regards to advertising. Members may post a heads up, about items that may be in stock at any business (unless that business is banned from this site). If a member owns, works for, is related too, or has ties to a company, they may not pimp for that business. Pimping includes saying company X has Y in stock. If a member does pimp for a company, then they are normally get an IM or sometimes a warning reminding them of the rules. If they continue to ignore the rules, then their account can be locked. The duration of the lock varies from case to case. |
|
Understand as you guys generate revenue from dealers who pay. I get that. But since you are here can I all for clarification for a rule? If I ask on here looking for something and a member who works for a local gun shop answers and says they have it on stock, is that against the rules?
BTW I do not work at any local shop and do nothing in the gun community. I am end user who doesn't want to drive all over atlanta looking for something. Hopefully me asking for something and Rich answering didn't get him kicked off. |

If a member works for a company, they can't answer about items they have in stock. If that employee wants to give the other member a heads up, they can use the IM feature. This helps the other member, and it keeps the employee from violating the rules. I notice referencing "Mods" doing things. Just as an FYI, the Mods here don't lock anyone. They just supervise the forum and enforce the rules we ask them too. Staff are the ones that will lock an account when needed. |

Come on. We can ask who has shit, the shit havers just can't reply. They must tell someone else privately they have the shit you seek. Then it can be posted. The mod gave you the directions for the end around. Quoted:

Is a shop owner posting a "I can get you X product give me a call at 555-5555" worse than an employee posting "X gun shop has X product in stock" in a I'm looking for X product thread? |

The employee can't post what they have. They need to tell someone via Im, email, phone, etc and the person can post that xyz shop has what you seek. Quoted:

I should have clarified; What I'm asking is if its worse to do something that 100% puts you as the owner of a shop rather than some random guy that may be associated with a shop. How are you going to determine who works for a shop and who doesn't? |

Good point, could we use the honor system? Not trying to be a smart ass. If you work for or own a shop and aren't a dealer don't push it. Quoted:

We handle these things on a case by case basis. I normally just send them an IM to explain the rules to first offense types. If they fail to take the advice, then things will escalate. The punishment normally escalates to a warning, then lock or ban. How they play out depends more on how the member deals with the escalation. ETA: Also, it's more of an honor system. I'm not going to hunt down every member that posts about a business and what they may have in stock. I'm going to assume you're just someone passing info along. Now, if member X has a bunch of posts about a the same place, then it becomes obvious. That's when someone normally will make a report, which then sends me digging through old posts. |

| So what stands out to me as a side effect is. If you are a regular in a local store , don't get carried away telling others what you find . But this issue is not new . I have seen it here in the HTF for many years . I know 2 people who have had issues and both handled it well |

Guys, Thanks for all the support. This was my own fault, not any actions taken by the site, or mod. I screwed up, and pushed the line. I'm back though. Rich Welcome back. I was the one there Thursday picking up the DD rifles and buying the AAC can. I told my wife about the deals going on, and she said I should get at least one for every caliber.
