What are the pros and cons of a 20 moa scope base?
Is a 20 moa base needed or useful here in Georgia? I doubt I will ever get chance to shoot 1000 yards nor do I know how to. I am running a savage 10 308 with a 4-16x50 scope. Also who makes a steel base I can buy off Amazon Using my gift cards and points ? |

Better to have and not need, than need and not have. Not only does it give you more elevation to use, it helps keep you in the center of your available adjustment range.
No cons to having a 20MOA base. I recommend Nightforce and Badger Ordnance, both are available through Amazon. |

When I asked this years ago, some of our local optic experts said you want to keep the center of the glass where it is most clear in the center and the canted base helps with that.
I bought a 15 moa NF and have no objections...... But I have no frame of reference either |

Short answer is the 20-MOA base is basically the standard. Go for it.
Nightforce and Badger are also my top pics. Only reason not to do the 20-MOA base would be if you are using a scope with only about 40-MOA total elevation travel. If that is the case, you might not get a 100-yard zero. We rarely see a rifle in the shop with anything other than a 20-MOA base and can't recall anyone ever having any kind of issue. The exception to the 20-MOA base is typically on rifles intended for extreme long-range. For example, a 375 CheyTac will typically get a 40-MOA base. Hope this helps. Mark |

If you absolutely have to have a TPS 20MOA base, order a Nightforce or Badger Ordnance 20MOA and I'll swap ya straight up!
TPS, NF and BO are all Picatinny-spec rails and rings, therefore they are all interchangeable. For instance, on my primary rifle I happen to be using a TPS base and NF rings. Another of my rifles has a NF base and BO rings. Absolutely no advantage to using rings and rail from the same company. |
