Thanks OP..too many see Memorial Day as an excuse to get off work and cookout with their buddies. Not enough pay attention to what it's really for.

Very much so.

The pen (ink vat labeled 'free speech') is mighty grateful to the sword & the daddy and sound of freedom standing in Arlington got me.

Thanks to all who gave some, but I'm grateful to those who gave all.

SFC Trent Bricker. 4-21-09. Died while on active duty - non combat related.

He was in Afghanistan in 2003 and Iraq in 2006.

I knew him for about 16 years.  He married my wife's Aunt.  Good guy.  Very soft spoken.  Left behind 2 kids and that is what hurts the most.

Thanks for posting, it's never too early to start honoring those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

This one gets me every time.

Our family went to the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville TN.
We also visited the National Cemetery there and my son kept asking us about the crosses that were there.
A park ranger gave him a flag and he got to place it. He thought long and hard before he placed it in front of the crosses of military people who died during World War II.
I think that it was the first time that he was able to grasp the sacrifice that honorable men and women made for us.
