Greetings,
We're making plans to get out of the Un-Constitution State and escape to be near family in North Georgia in Cherokee or Forsyth County (on 20 or north of it). We're in the woods here in CT, and we used to be able to shoot on our property, until everything went full retard here. We're looking at properties that are 2-5 acres (not in a subdivision). Would it be likely I could set up a berm and shoot 22 in these parts without getting a visit? Any other advice for this area? |

Hahahaha that makes me grin when I think about all the good folks leaving the states of NY and CT. Welcome to the South brother. I left NY 23 years ago and glad all 3 of my teen sons are born and raised in a little town (well maybe no so little anymore) in Georgia. Given enough space, one could expect to put up a decent berm and shoot rimfire but if you've got some douchebag libtard that is close by, it's not goign to stop them from complaining and calling the po-po. The good news is that state law pretty much sides with you provided you're at least a good distance from a road and/or residence. Personally I still shoot despite a elementary school being built within 1/4 mile. I just shoot with suppressors now and made friends with the school resource officer so she knows to call me and check in before doing a lockdown over gunshots. |

What part of CT are you in OP?I left Suffield last summer and moved to the Commerce area,LOVE it!As long as your not a liberal and try to change anything down here you'll be fine.Lot of people may not like you at first, but if they see your like minded all will be good |

Land is cheaper down here so you can probably afford to buy 10 acres so nobody will be bothering you or calling the Sheriff's Department. Getting to know your neighbors (which some people up North just won't do) also helps as they then know that you like to go plinking and then don't call the Sheriff unless the shots are accompanied by screaming! Buying the right property can help if its less then 10 acres. My land backs up to National Forest and I am basically firing toward a cliff so I have a natural backstop with miles of wilderness behind it. |

I'm in Forsyth and on about an acre that backs up to unused forested land and I shoot bb/pellet/22 often. I am respectful of the day/time and am very safe on blowing the fn squirrels away in a safe direction with a safe back ground. I have some coppers around me too and they dont say anything. It's legal if your not being stupid. HOA be damned.
In the area there are several gun clubs. You might just join one. I am close to joining River Bend myself. Just tryin to iron out some personal shit first. Assimilate. Don't bring CT with you. I left CA behind 12 years ago. This here is 'Merica! Fuck Yeah! |

Ga and the south have very little public land. There's some nat forests and some state parks, but none of the unrestricted vacant state owned land like a remember in michigan.
Land is fairly expensive compared to some areas up north. 2-5k per acre in rural areas. Of course there is always deals but expect to pay 10-30k+ per acre within an hour of ATL |

Quoted: I'm in N. Forsyth where you can do that if you have the land. A nearby neighbor has a small farm he shoot on all the time, sometimes after 10 pm. ![]() PM if you want AO specific info on where to look. Don't overlook Dawson Co. Dawsonville is going to be a culture shock for a Connecticut Yankee.

As far as culture shock, anything north of the metro and south of the SC border is going to be a culture shock.. |

Take us how we are or don't come here. That said welcome to America. Roger that. CT was a detour for work-related reasons, and the only way I could keep sane was having a place in the woods. Don't think I'll have a problem leaving these "government should do everything" people behind.

Are the Gun and Pawn shops any good, or is it another place? I'll have to check it out on my next trip... |

Quoted: Welcome. My mileage varied with that store. NFA guy is absent a lot, never returns calls, prices are so-so to high as giraffe nuts, and they sat on my stamp for a month and never called me. I'll never buy anything there again. I'll grant you that NFA is not their strongest department.

I've had better luck with Forsyth County Pawn in downtown Cumming. Both are good for different things....Forsyth Co. Pawn has good pricing if they have what you want plus they'll bargain a bit, Dawsonville Gun will not. Dawsonville has a great selection and decent pricing but they won't bargain. Some say they've gone downhill since the move, really depends on what you're looking for. |
| I live in White county, work in forsyth county. Guess I'm a hillbilly....but I thought forsyth county WAS the big city....LOL. Forsyth county pawn is a great place...in there weekly,as well as 400 pawn. Don't know about shooting in forsyth county, but here in White county we shoot all the time. Tested out my new 10.5 AR pistol at night last week. |

Question for you about moving your guns here. Can you legally transport them thru NY, NJ or do you have to ship them to an FFL? I have family in MA. Was wondering about carrying a long gun on the next trip. Pretty sure the interstate firearms act covers you unless it's been changed in the past couple of years. As long as you keep them unloaded and locked in a case you're gtg. IIRC, you have 24 hrs to pass thru. I haven't driven to Maine since the safe act so I'm unsure about mags. |

Case pending before the Supreme Court right now about a flyer who had an unplanned layover in New Jersey, he accepted his luggage from the airline, went to the provided hotel for the night, when he went to check in the next morning for his next flight, he was arrested and spent about ten days in jail before they dismissed charges, and it took him years to get his guns back. |

That's why you don't fly, unfortunately. He had an endpoint (not of his own choosing) which allowed them to set up an "affirmative defense" situation that cost him money. FOPA is still in place- it's still legal to move your stuff (if you would be legal to possess them at both endpoints). You just can't give them any opportunity to say "you stopped in our state". Drive continuously through the non-free states (and don't get pulled over). There's no set "number of hours" that constitutes the continuous nature of a trip in the FOPA statute, just the opinion of the court you appear in. So don't get stopped. Hint- don't use 95. |

Quoted: Well, our offer was accepted for a place in Woodstock. Now the fun begins... Not too bad an area, about fifteen minutes north of me (or less, depending on traffic). I'm not too fond of the range there in Woodstock, but there are a couple of decent ones up 575 at Sixes Road, and Cherokee Gun and Pawn isn't much further up 575. |

Except for the fact that all the states that act was meant to curtail completely ignore it and will throw you in jail in a heartbeat if they find something. If you're driving through the People's Republik of Newyorkistan or the Democratik People's Republik of Massholeoftwoshits, ship your mags and your guns (You can ship them to yourself) or charter a plane that doesn't have to stop for fuel in any of those states.
