I'm moving soon and I need a storage unit temporarily to store my stuff buy I have never rented one before. What can you tell me about them? price wise, break ins, locations, and length of time that I need it.
I'm moving next weekend so I would need one by then and I would only need it for approximately 60-90 days tops. Again, I have never had one and have no idea what i'm getting myself into. |

Just throwing this idea out there...
If you have a location to drop it off where you are moving, one of the PODs might be an idea. Load it up, they move it to where you are going, then you get to unload it there at your leisure. Not sure how far you are moving or if it would make sense monetarily, but it could be a different idea. |

Let me chime in on the lock issue....
When I rented a unit several years ago the owner of the facility advised against any type of secondary lock, This was an unsecured facility on the other side of the tracks and the owner told me the only units that were burglarized were sporting extra locks in addition to the barrel locks seen on every unit. Makes perfect sense when you think about it...??? td |
| Line the floor with pallets to keep all your stuff up off the floor. If the roof leaks, you won't find out about it until you go back and all your stuff is ruined. Every storage place I've ever rented from has language in their contract to the effect that they're NOT responsible for any damages that occur because of roof leaks, etc. It's not a bad idea to throw a couple Damp Rid containers in there to keep the humidity down also. |

Call your insurance agent and get insurance for the storage unit. It should be cheap, but those places aren't liable for ANYTHING. That's assuming what you're storing has value. If it doesn't, don't get a storage unit and just dump it. that's wrong!!! lol!! but the storage place will offer ins on each unit!! or atleast the last one used did. |

Yeah they offer insurance specifically because they DON'T have liability and want to make some extra money on you. I'd guess the insurance they offer is extremely high margin and overpriced since they have you in the office right when you're signing your contract for the unit. A convenience tax! |
