| I go dove, quail, and duck hunting about once each per year but haven't been deer hunting since the one time I went when I was 15. I'm looking for some advice on where to go, how to get started, etc. if someone out there would be interested in taking on a deer hunting mentee that would be awesome. |

I know I and at least one other member in the Cobb/Cherokee area are interested in getting started deer hunting. I've been once but all I saw was a spike buck (and watched him for a good fifteen minutes as he wandered through 270 degrees of my field of view from the stand I was in). Haven't had time/money to put into a lease so will probably have to figure out which public lands I can hunt on (what is there other than WMA's)? |

It's a small spot on a relatives land, but it is a funnel for deer coming from a field to a lake. You're welcome to come with me sometime this year, just let me know when you want to go. It's North of Rome. |

Didn't you want to get starting deer hunting? Why not bowhunt your backyard? Yeah that was me. I have moral issues taking them over the salt block I put out there last year. The property you see back there is set to be a neighborhood soon. I probably ought to clean up the salt and put up a tree stand. I usually have 3-5 small does out there. This was only the second time I've seen a buck. |

I know everyone puts down public land but I don't see why.
I have had private leases paying hundreds of dollars and still deal with assholes. But public land has always been good to go for me. I have killed deer, hogs, doves, ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and coyotes all over GA on WMA land for almost 15 years and never had a problem. Occasionally someone might walk by or set up to close but a quick whistle usually sends them off with a waive. I'm gearing up right now to take my 2 oldest on the youth hunt in a few weeks at Paulding Forest. $19 and I have acess to 25, 000 acreas that gets hunted teice a year? I can't wait. Plus got drawn for Rum Creek. A buddy got drawn for second primative weapons on Ossabaw with no points this year. Takes a little time but GA has some great public hunts available. IM me and I will help as much as I can. |

You should hunt it before they clear that land behind you. Even if you get a doe, any bow kill is a trophy. |
