I was speaking to someone Sunday that was telling about speeding tickets that were supposedly written by GSP last week.
He said someone came blowing through the small town where he works. In this town the speed limit goes from 55 to 25 is a fairly short distance. He said the driver was going 75 mph and consequently got 4 ticket by the time he was pulled over... 75 in a 55... 75 in a 45... 75 in a 35... 75 in a 25... It sounded like BS to me but I guess stranger things have happened. I would also assume he could have tacked on several more driving awards like reckless driving ETC while he on a roll...??? What says the experts.... Is this even possible..?? td |

I THINK there's supposed to be a delay between issuing multiple tickets... That said, one of my college buddies, now an Atlanta PD LT, worked in a lawyer's office during college, and went to court one day to give something to the lawyer, and the lawyer told him to sit down and listen to the current case. It was a traffic case involving someone who had fled from the police, and they had gone through the camera footage and charged him for EVERY traffic infraction committed - every stop sign, traffic light, speeding violations as often as legally possible, they even charged him for the damage to the median where he went off the road AND for someone's flat tire after they drove over some debris that came off his car when he hit something (note - he told me about this 20 years ago, before he was APD)... |

Never heard of the multiple speeding ticket thing. Ain't sayin' it ain't so, I've just never heard of it. Never would have thought of doing it, either.
On the surface, however, it does sound plausible. I can't believe a judge would go forward with it, though. They would probably just convict on the worst one. |

ah..
75 in a 25? if that was true thats crazy. im curious how you do that unless you are drunk or running from the law. only places i have seen 25 mph limits are through small towns or around schools. for instance i drive through ballground all the time. 25 mph limit. going 75 through there would be insane even if you knew no cops were around. and i drive pretty fast a lot of time. |

There are a few places on 331 in Florida that go from 65 down to 25 in a quarter mile or so. |

You'd best stay out of most of the small towns in South Carolina. They don't have all the anti-speed trap laws that Georgia does. There's a stretch of road through a small town called Eutaville near Lake Marion where the speed limit goes from 55 all the way down to 25 in way less than 500 feet around a gentle curve into town. No schools, churches, or anything warranting that are located there except for ticket revenue generation. It's even worse if you're a CDL driver. Every time I do driver file audits up there everyone's files are full of tickets for 1-3 miles over the limit. Greedy little chickenshits if you ask me. |
| If I were defending him I'd argue merger of the offenses and that the speeding was a continuous crime therefore only one speeding ticket is warranted. I'm not a criminal defense lawyer so not sure how well those arguments would fly or what other arguments might be possible, but I'd at least give those a shot. |

By law, they are supposed to have up sign indicating that a reduction in speed limit is coming up.
I beat a ticket in Doraville many moons ago because they didn't have those signs. Also got Doraville another time because they did not have up the signs indicating speed detection devices were in use. Of course, that was about 30 years ago. |

The town of Bluffton, on the way to HHI, is like that. 1 mph over and they gotcha. Had one tail me all the way to the bridge onto HHI one night. Sheesh. |
and do what shep said.
