I am in the process of selling a farm I've owned for a couple of years. There's a lone pear tree near the old homeplace. My daughter loves eating the pears and the in laws make some mean preserves from the tree.

Everybody in my family is driving my crazy about this silly tree now that I have a buyer lined up so I'm going to replace it if I can figure out what in the hell to buy. It's shaped like an anjou pear but the skin looks different.

Please help if possible.....!!!!!!

10 Quarts and 7 Pints of preserves from this years pears.

Keeps some seeds from it and start trees from seeds.   I've got about 15 New Zealand guava  seedlings in pots I've been growing all summer.  In 2-3 years they should be able to produce some fruit.

That's my vote. Got one in the backyard just like it.

Is it a very hard pear? Crunchy like an apple?

Used to have one of those.  Pops called them an appear (apple/pear). Leathery skin and firm meat. Looks like an apple and tastes like a pear.

Is it really firm? I have a similar tree if so and should be able to air layer a limb for you.

It's a rather large pear with firm almost grainy flesh.

I'm not familar with "air layering" but I just pulled up a how to video on YouTube....

It would be awesome if you could help me with the process...!!!!!

I don't know the variety but those make the best preserves. They don't get all mushy when you cook 'em down. My mom made the best, I sure do miss her.

Does the tree have a limb low enough to bury part of it?

Nevermind, airlayering will be the better choice.
