This seems like a perfect fit for the GA HTF.
Police shoot dog after arresting owner for filming Warning: Graphic |

Every bit of that was the dog owner's fault. how so?Their goal was to question the guy for video taping them, and its not their fault the dog jumped out of the car and attacked them. The owner, already being in handcuffs was unable to restrain the dog as it was. Thats one big ass dog, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it if it jumped at me as it did when it was shot. |
|
I'd imagine if the dog had stayed in the car, things wouldn't have ended up that way. If a dog of that size lunges at me with aggression, the story will end pretty much the same way. To me the dog's owner should have known how his dog would react if it thought he was in danger of some sort. Anyway, clean kill from what I saw.
|
|
It's pretty obvious that the dog was being aggressively protective of its owner. I didn't think that needed explanation. I was wondering why the officers arrested the owner. Did the officers instigate the dog's aggression? CA code allows for public recording.
Cal. Penal Code § 632 "The statute, however, specifically excludes from its application any conversations made in public places, government proceedings, or in circumstances where the participants of the conversation could reasonably expect to be overheard or recorded." |

The dog owner could have easily prevented that. Looked like his mouth was running along with the camera. Elaborate? in the video it looks like he is yelling something at the officers. I couldn't make it out but the officers were fine with the others recording before he starts talking. If he stayed back and kept his mouth shut he wiuld probably still have a dog. |
|
I'm having to try very hard to keep from getting banned. But what the fuck do those cops expect? I have a Belgian Malinois that is extremely protective. If anyone puts there hands on me he does not like it. That cop was a fucking idiot for shooting that dog. Sure the owner wasn't the smartest to leave the window open, but he probably wasn't expecting handcuffs to come out due to him video taping something.
|
| I would hate if this was one of my dogs, and they are extremely protective. That being said I cant fault the officer that shot the dog, he was only protecting himself. I fault the 2 officers who handcuffed the guy in the first place. I mean really for video taping, Come'on son! That was an abuse of power on their behalf, could have been handle so many different ways. |

Same here, i have an English Bull Terrier & he fucking hates anyone in uniform. very protective. the situation could have prevented, owner should have restrained his dog better & the cops should have made sure the owner restrained his dog before restraining him. That was really hard to watch, & very sad. like i said it could have been prevented. Anyway, i would FO if that happened to me, i dont care who you are. My dog is my family. |

He wasn't arrested for recording. He had his stereo blaring with an armed robbery suspect in a house nearby. The officers were having a hard time communicating because of the noise and he was asked several times to turn off his radio and he refused.
http://www.examiner.com/article/dog-shot-by-hawthorne-police-as-owner-is-arrested-for-videotaping-them Police had surrounded a house where a gunman had robbed two people. In a video made by Gabriel Martinez, Leon can be seen driving up in a rented black Mazda with his radio blaring. Officers reportedly asked Leon to turn down the music in his car.
Instead, Leon parked his car and got out of the car to walk his dog. He could be seen making a video of officers using his cell phone. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/07/02/extremely-disturbing-video-apparently-shows-police-arresting-man-for-filming-officers-then-shooting-his-dog-4-times/ The officers were apparently upset because the music coming form Rosby’s car was too loud and he didn’t immediately turn the volume down.
“It’s distracting the officers. It’s interfering with what they are able to hear,” Hawthorne Police Lt Scott Swain reportedly said. “It’s not just a party call. It’s an armed robbery call. The officers need to hear what’s going on with the people being called out of the residence. That music in his car is bleeding over and it’s distracting them.” |

I really see this as two issues. Should the man have been arrested and were the police justified in shooting the dog?
First issue...based upon the news report regarding an armed robbery/barricade situation, yes. He was interfereing with an operation to apprehend an violent felon. If he had simply turned down the music, none of this would have happened. He bears the responsibility for his situation. Second...Were the police justified in shooting the dog? Justified?...yes. Would I have shot him at that particular moment?...no. For me personally, I'm not shooting any dog unless it's got it's teeth in me (unless it's a feral dog or may there are indications its infected with Rabies), but for a domenstic dog that is somebody's pet. I'm not dropping the hammer until I'm bit. That's just me..and my choice. USSA-1 |

Ahhh that video was soooooo full of GA hometown forum win! Armored trucks and dogs getting shot!!!!! ![]() No doubt...it's a shame we couldn't have left it alone as some innocent bystander getting bullied by the popo in an effort to lure the unsuspecting dog to it's death... |

Like most folks, I make my living (in part) with my hands and having that diminished or interrupted by a preventable injury is not exactly what I can afford. |

Every bit of that was the dog owner's fault. Are you trolling or being serious? Explain yourself please. Dead serious. First off, multiple units and a response truck...those guys weren't there for a fucking tea party. They were working on something serious. This asshat sees that and not ony decides to be a rubber necker but thinks it's a good idea to act like a douchebag. He also decides to bring the dog into the situation. When the cops start his way he knows what's coming. Hence why he hurries to the car looking over his shoulder, puts the dog up(without securing it or rolling up the windows), then when they call out to him he starts walking back, turns around and puts his hands behind his back. Once the handcuffs are on he decides he wants to fight. The dog sees this and reacts as any good dog should, coming to the aid of his master. Quoted:
I mean for christs sake the cop try's to grab the dog. Fucking idiot. I hope he gets his ass fired and sued to the moon and back. Ever think that 'fucking idiot' was trying to get control of the dog WITHOUT having to shoot it? I was pretty pissed about the dog getting shot, but not at the cop. Like I said, every bit of that was the owner's fault and I hope he racked up some extra charges. Fuck that guy. |
|
I saw this last night after it was spammed all over a certain website almost all night. From what I can see, I dunno why they arrested the guy, but whatever, it's CA what do you expect...
As far as the dog getting shot... I hate to see it, but I was almost expecting it when I saw the guy put the dog in the car with all the windows fully rolled down. I guess I can say that maybe the cops should have tried to grab the dogs leash and secure it somehow, but I can't say they were wrong in shooting it. This isn't like they ran into the guys house and shot the dog in its crate like some of the stories I read, the dog jumped out of the car and came at them when they apprehended the owner. |

Warning- I am about to post an opinion. If you cannot handle or respect that, please scroll by. : )
I posted this knowing it would stir a bit of muck, but I think it's important to see these things. I have no intent or desire to paint either police or arrestees in a bad light. It seems to me that this could have and should have been handled differently. I imagine the car windows were left open because the owner knows better than to put a dog in a car in SoCal with the windows up in warm weather. The officers could have requested the owner secure his dog better before taking action in a way that would provoke a protective pet. There is certainly more to the story than the video captured. The dog's owner may have orchestrated the encounter intentionally. I think, however, the failure lies with the people who have control of the situation- the police could have handled it differently. Isn't that where training should come in? Right or wrong, shooting a pet in front of a crowd is the end of a chain of failure that could have taken several prior turns in different directions in order to achieve a better result. I support good police officers (I think they're the vast majority) and I believe everyone has the right to defend themselves. I think there is too little emphasis in policing regarding public relations. You can play a hard-ass all you want, but at some point, your mentality is no longer compatible with your goal of protecting people. I don't think a police officer can do the job properly if the only modes the have are "hands on belt" and "arrest". Golden Rule and all that- allow each person his dignity. Even if cracking them in the face would feel better. Perception trumps truth. Should-haves don't count. The job that police do isn't going to improve if instances like these continue. A Jurisdiction's Finest need to act the part. A "big scary dog" is part of my family. She's the gentlest creature I know. And I'm done. |

Here is a link to the video filmed prior to the footage in the original post.

I read the news story associated with the video. The guy was looking for a reaction from the police. He got one. I do believe that if the police are working a crime scene and you do not turn down a loud radio after repeated requests you should be arrested.
The guy did several stupid things and the poor dog paid the price. I don't understand why the guy was so cooperative until after the bracelts were on and then decided to fight. That is what upset the dog and led to the shooting. |

Are you serious?" When the cuffs go on people react totally different especially in CA where they see cameras rolling. Also For G-Money If a shock collar can kill a dog I don't see why a taser shouldn't work. https://www.google.com/search?q=Will+a+taser+work+on+a+dog&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a |

I don't know what's more pathetic, the cops in that video or the badge humpers defending them. Geez man, really?...I guess I'm a badge humper then

Not in Georgia (it's not wrong or illegal to record the police in public). Don't know about wherever it happened. Unless you're in Madison Co., a person I know was told to stop recording them or she would be arrested. Happened about a month ago in Colbert. |
how so?
