I think that I built the berms here high enough to catch all the fliers

"The complaint filed 20 months ago states that the owners of the range, which is adjacent to the plaintiffs’ property, have “caused and allowed bullets and shotgun pellets to be shot onto” the Caldwells’ property several times in the four years leading up to the filing.

The suit, which petitions for punitive damages to be awarded, alleges the range has been made aware of the incidents and asked to construct a barrier to prevent any future occurrences, with the range “refusing” to do so."

I used to go over there and shoot but haven't been there in years. People kill me buying next to a gun range and then complaining about it.

If the complaint was only noise then I would agree. But if it's lead falling on their place then it doesn't sound like the gun range has adequate space and/or traps to contain the projectiles launched on the range.

That place is a joke...A farging dangerous one.
I have been there 3 times...Once after the range was called cold I headed downrange to put my target up, and the owner instructed a girl he was teaching to fire a round off. I packed up my stuff and left.
I didnt go back for 4 or more years. Then when I decided to take my son back, I was advised that I could put the 10.5" pistol upper on my UNREGISTERED lower. I acknowledged that I knew that, but that it was against federal law and I could face 20 years in prison for it. I was told, "Yeah but thats only if someone finds out." I packed up my stuff and left.

Wouldnt hurt my feelings if the place was closed down.

Do you have neighbors out there?

Dirt shooters and new scopes have a way of sending bullets into the sky.

Of course, everybody has neighbors. But if you look at satellite images, I don't have anybody as close to me as Advanced does...ESPECIALLY downrange. Additionally, the berms here are really high as compared to most ranges I've seen.

I've never been there but I've passed it many times. I think that when folks has experiences like the ones you mentioned that the gun community as a whole suffers.

F that! I've had issues there too but never somebody firing on a cold range. I've only been there twice and both times were less than satisfactory. The second time I left without even shooting. My sign in experience was so unpleasant I just turned around and left. I'd rather drive to the DNR range near Calhoun than give AB my hard earned money.

$175,000 would build a lot of baffling . I have been to 2 ranges that were in busy areas and both had baffling to prevent this. One was in a park. The other was in an industrial area.

Buy the NRA range source book and follow the guidelines for a range and you will be fine.
Civil court is a joke you can be aquited on criminal charges and still loose in civil trial.
I can do a NRA Range inspection and from what I know the advanced bullets range needs improvements.

I have shot at this range many times. I am familiar with how it is built and laid out.  The only way i can see bullets getting past the end of the range is 1.- Idiot, careless shooters. Or, 2.- they had to ricochet off of something.

Idiot careless shooters end lives. As a business, they are responsible for making sure they have adequate protection against said idiots.or not let them in. Since you never know who is the idiot, you gotta have protection against them...and accidental discharges...

Did I mention that I was "shot at" by direction of the owner? seems he falls into the idiot category.

The world really HAS gone insane.

Buy a house at the business end of a firing range, then bitch in court that you live at the end of a fucking firing range... and the range has to buy you out and pay for you to move.  What a scam.

Pretty much the same thing happened to Lock, Stock and Barrel Gun Range in Grantville.

Hardly what I'd consider a scam. We're not talking noise here...there were evidently rounds striking the house. If the range didn't have the space or traps to contain their product, then they should have to buy the property that they make unusable. And they did

Okay, I can see it if rounds were actually hitting the house.

But it still reminds me of a case I knew about down in So Fla.  This guy had a mushroom farm.  When he opened his farm, it was way out in the boonies.  Mushrooms grow in covered barns, on racks, in huge trays full of pure manure.  The farmer would get a truckload of fresh manure in once every couple months.  Needless to say, a huge pile of fresh cow flop sitting in the hot Florida sun and constantly getting wetted by the afternoon rains didn't smell like roses.  Well "progress" came, and housing developments came, and some thirty years later this guy found he was getting sued by the people that had bought homes in the surrounding area, trying to make him close his farm down.  In that case, the court decided that if they didn't want to live near a mushroom farm, then they shouldn't have bought homes next to one.

Yeah now that story is pretty screwed up. I have a farm behind me and he uses manure from time to time on his pastures...the odor can get your attention, but I'm glad it's a farm and not a housing project though

Is there any indication how the rounds were leaving the range?  Were they deflected off incorrectly angled berms or not hitting the berm at all?

My question exactly.

This range does not have "range officers". They do keep an eye on what's happening on the range, but they rely heavily on the experienced shooters policing what happens on the line.
