I am looking to get a Savage 10pc 20" that is threaded from the factory. My wife will purchase this as a anaversary gift. What is the going rate for this rifle ? Is it worth it to spend extra money to get a Savage PC with 5r rifling ?

I'm a huge savage fan and my go to 308 is a savage that I have done some stuff too.

Anyways.  The prices keep creeping up on these and the new barrel nut looks smooth so its lost its big advantage in my mind over a Remington. On a typical 10fp I can swap a barrel and chk headspace faster than I can clean it.

If I was in your shoes I'd look for a slightly older savage for 400-600 and upgrade the stock. alternatively the remmy 700 5r.

Eta:  I read they now have smooth nut wrenches.

Savage hog hunter would be my choice it has the 20" threaded barrel, backup iron sights, and costs about $450 which leaves a good amount of money left over for a stock, scope, rings, and rail.

I have a Precision Carbine in .223.  I paid a little under six for mine, but dealer cost is almost Seven now

I suspect that's a different quality barrel than is on the pc or any of the higher models. If you look at how much you spend to shoot a precision rifle over time, it makes a lot of sense to start with a high end barrel.

I know the 10fp barrels were solid. I suspect the pc uses a similar one. The question is does the hog hunter use a quality barrel or is it just a different contour on the cheap barrels they put in the budget hunting rifles ?

IIRC the 10PC uses a heavier contour barrel while the hog hunter uses a medium contour since most people don't want to lug around a heavy rifle while hunting.  The hog hunter also has a blind magazine where as the 10PC has a detachable magazine.  I don't have personal experience with one but all the reviews I've read online from people who have purchased one have been good.  I always look at a factory barrel as a practice barrel since I usually replace them anyways.  The OP could buy a stevens action, a custom barrel, a custom trigger, a B&C stock, some head space gauges, a vice, and a barrel wrench and have a nice custom savage for around $1K there are many ways to skin this cat.

I've seen several out of the box Savage precision rifles lately with problems.......as in "send it back to Savage" problems. Barrels have proven to be one of the most common culprits.

Interesting...General accuracy issues or chamber issues?

Several different barrel-related issues. The most recent one I saw was a brand new 110BA in .338 Lapua.  Had a guy drive down from New Bedford, Mass for a 2-day training package.  We couldn't get it zeroed. To rule out the scope (he had a Nightforce) I swapped his scope with 2 of mine (a Nightforce and an IOR). Both had the same issue; the rifle shot so far to the right we couldn't get it on paper. After monkeying with it, I found that it impacted 4 inches right at 25 feet.

I figured the culprit was the copy-of-a-McCann mount. The owner dropped it off at the Savage plant in person. When Savage went through it, they found the barrel to be the culprit. Savage replaced the barrel and she shoots fine now.

Wish I would have seen this last night.

Look for a Savage 10TR.  Its not listed on Savage's site but its a killer deal.  20 or 24" threaded barrel, 5r rifling, different wide forearm accustock, accutriger, box mag.  <$500.  They are part of their LE only line I think, but some sneak into my distributor every now and then.  My last one walked out the door this morning.

Here's some discussion on the Hide about them.

That 10tr Is interesting.  If i could find one I'd buy it instead of a hog hunter.
