Very nice. Though not a collector myself I've always admired the classics.

Does yours have the stainless rear sight?

Nice. I've developed an itch for a Ruger GP100...the 4" stainless model.

Nice! I really like the 66 and even the 65 series too. Thinking about getting a talon tactical kydex to tote one in.

Fyi- according to Marcinko, seal team six used model 66's in their early years, mostly because they wanted SS for maritime ops i think. Not that it makes owning one any better, just interesting history i think.

Should this become the HTF revolver picture thread?

The MSG (Marine Security Guard, aka Embassy guards) used to carry S&W 66's.

As a long time member of the S&W revolver addiction group, I wholeheartedly approve of those very nice examples.

A few of my wheelguns:

S&W 442.  Had this since I was a rookie cop, it was my first backup.  I opened up the "rear sight", stippled the backstrap and had it coated in dark gray KG Gunkote

S&W 25 .45 Colt, 5", elk grips

S&W M-13, pinned, 3" round-butt.  I bobbed the hammer, chamfered the cylinder and chambers and installed Ahrend's grips that I cut off flush with the bottom of the frame.  Had it matte blued and the hammer/trigger color casehardened

S&W 625-6, .45ACP.  Set up for USPSA, tons of work done on this one.  Has a smoother action that the early 1970's Python I used to have.

S&W M-28 "Highway Patrolman".  I wanted a 4" 28 and searched for quite some time.  Buddy of mine found this one for me at a little pawnshop on S Cobb Dr about 14yrs ago.  Needed some TLC.  I cleaned her up, chamfered the chambers, slicked the action up, modified the custom cylinder release, installed Hogue pau ferro grips and had her matte blued with the hammer and trigger color casehardened.  Was my bedside table gun for years, shot her in a few action pistol matches.

Pair of Colt SAA's.  Both a 4 3/4" .45 Colt.  Both tuned by Ben Forkin.  The top gun wears elephant ivory out of the Colt Custom Shop, hopefully I'll get some real teeth on the other one soon.  I shoot 'em regularly, used to shoot 'em a lot more when I had more time to shoot Cowboy Action.

2K650xx - 1972

When I got it, a previous owner had filed down the front sight (probably shooting a lot of lightweight magnums) as can be seen in this early photo . . .

See how the rear sight is cranked all the way down? I restored it to full height to get it properly zeroed with the 158gr bullets I shoot.

I'm sort of wishing now that I'd replaced the front blade with the original style plain instead of the insert, but at the time I was looking at utility over originality.

If I ever 'retire' it, it will get changed back to a plain stainless blade.
