the game last night was undisputably the most exciting, hard nosed football game i've seen in a long time.  Sad to see the dogs lose but happy they represented some great SEC football.

Yep, but, per my new thread on the subject, Richt choked, in the end, like he's done before.

I am sure facebook will be full of "time for him to go "comments.... Those people are crazy. Look at our overall record. Richt is the right man. I am very pleased with the Dawgs. This SHOULD HAVE BEEN OUR YEAR I agree, but with the way we played against the REAL #1 team in the nation (Norte Dame sucks and will get the doors beat off them) I am VERY hopeful for our prospects next year.

i just wanted to congradulate you UGA fans, they played their hearts out and i enjoyed watching the game. i feel like that should have been the national title game. i''ll enjoy watching the Crimson Tide beat the brakes of the "#1 team in the country".

i'm looking forward to watching the SEC dominate the bowl games and listen to the haters wail and moan about the SEC, hopefully my Mississippi State Bulldogs will do me proud

Isn't that the story of a UGA fans life?  Coach Richt will get you 10 win season consistently but wont be able to get you guys to that next level.  Its not for lack of talent either, go look how many of his players are playing on Sundays.  How many National Championships do you think Spurrier, Meyer, Saban, Tressel, etc, would have with UGA's players?

i would love to have that talent pool at MSU, with the coaching staff we have now, MSU could really hammer other teams

As much as I detest Steve Spurrier, I'd love to see what he could have done with the same talent Richt has had during his tenure. Spurrier said he would have taken the job at UGA but he was never asked. Richt just can't instill the discipline and killer instinct into the players that they need to go all the way.

That being said, it was a hell of a game. GA had every opportunity to close it out but couldn't capitalize.

I hope Alabama smears ND all over the field.

Richt is fine. I was disappointed but it was a great game. As soon as we let him go we will have 5 years  of 6 win seasons while richt goes to ark, miss, or tenn and wins 2 national championships.

I agree however richt lacks the militant type of discipline that some of our recruits seem to need.

I thought it was a damn shame the polls dropped them below Florida and out of the BCS.  There's no question in this GT fan's mind that the Dawgs are at least the second best team in the country.

Florida, oregon, kansas state, and stanford moved past uga. Did someone forget that florida's only loss is to ga....the now ranked 7 team. Rofl whatever helps you sleep at night i guess

I know im partial but it looks to me like the top 5 teams in the country should consist of 4 sec teams, and you know they werent going to  let that happen.

Ohwell i cant wait for all the butt hurt when bama whips some irish ass

The only big mistake I think he made this year was to put the six suspended starters into a game to start all at once. That was a huge disaster. He should have integrated them into game play more gradually. I think we would have won the SC game had he done that. UGA would be crazy to get rid of him unless Nick Saben came into the UGA office and said he wanted to coach there.

Anybody who thinks Georgia should fire CMR after this season or in particular last night's game is a fucking idiot.

Richt has been one of the top 4 coaches in the country over the last decade.
Saban, Meyer, and Miles have all won a championships.
An idiot could have coached, assuming you could have outbid AU, a Cam Newton lead team to a National Championship and AU just fired their idiot.

I can't think of any other programs with the sustained success Georgia has had under CMR.
Tressel  and Carrol ran a dirty programs and were fired or left for the NFL
Brown's program at Texas in decline.
Stoops at OU always finds a way to lose a game or two the Sooner
Since the old ball coach left UF via DC he has made 1 appearance in the SEC championship. South Carolina disappoints every year.
Are there any other active Coaches with a NC?

I dont necessarily disagree with you, but let me play devil's advocate for one moment.

Coach Richt has been successful at UGA no matter how you measure it.  I dont think anyone would disagree.  However, some would say that with the talent pool that he gets, the program should have been MORE successful.  He has 2 SEC championships in 12 years which is certainly nothing to sneeze at, however he has as many or more NFL players drafted each year as any school in the country.  Fans see all year how players are being punished and arrested and it gives the appearance that CMR doesn't run a tight enough ship.

So the big question is this...is UGA successful because of CMR or is UGA successful in spite of CMR because his players are so talented?

My personal opinion is that football should be about more than Wins and Losses and CMR appears to be a good man with a good heart.  Unfortunately, in the SEC no one seems to care about that anymore.

If you want a really nice guy to give a motivational speech down at the local 1st Baptist, or if you want a guy who'll do backflips off a high dive with his players, then Richt's your guy.  If you want to win a national championship, you better find somebody else.  UGA lost ten straight games to ranked teams.  They have no discipline, on the field or off.  They played an amazing game on Sat., only to have Richt piss it away with sophomoric clock management.

The Richt argument is a hard one. No doubt his record at UGA is good from an overall percentage. He is a great representative and will never embarrass UGA off the field. He has a lot of support from women and church freaks and rightfully so. However, his winning percentage against top rated teams is absolutely horrible. When up against similar talent, he usually loses. He is too loyal and holds on to assistants far after they should be fired.

I don't think he will ever win a national or SEC championship again. If that's your goal, he won't get you there. However, if beating teams that he should beat, holding women's football clinics, speaking at churches and being an all around good guy is enough for you, keep him.

Personally, I think it's possible to find a coach capable of winning championships at UGA and not be a devil worshipper simultaneously. I like Richt but I'd like to see someone else but I don't get a vote.

I like MR, but I still say time for a change!! Give him a option either him or his coaching staff!! I personally say let of them all and go after some like Kirby Smart!! Or at least have one NC under their belt as a HC or as a assistant!!

EITHER DAMN WAY GO DAWGS!! Damn good year and game!!

I hear ya but hell no to Kirby Smart. He turned around and gave the throat slash to the UGA fans last Saturday. The same people that used to cheer for his sorry ass and finance his education. I like your theory but not that twerp as a HC.

Sometimes it comes down to luck.

Vince Dooley only won championship during his tenure.
Spurrier only earned one at UF and I really don't see South Carolina getting him back there.
How many years did it take Bobby Bowden and Tom Osbourne?
Multiple NC winning coaches like Bryant and Saban are beyond rare.

ETA: Unless Saban, Meyer or Miles want to leave their jobs, there aren't any guaranteed upgrades at the head coaching position.

Coach Richt explained his thought process for not grounding the ball and wasting a down.

They had the correct play called, crossing route in the end zone so grounding the ball would have cost them down and given the Bama defense more time to set up.
3 shots at a TD, the first of which was with the defense on it's heels, makes more sense than grounding the ball, losing a down and giving the Defense more time to set up.
Grounding the ball is for when you don't have a play called but that was not the case.
It was just bad luck the ball was tipped and caught instead falling incomplete.
