Know your Weapon and Limitations.
Many people believe that because they carry a firearm or knife for protection, that they will be able to use it in a self defense situation should the need arise. We all do, which can be dangerous if we do not know how to deploy our tool and handle ourselves. With the recent "warrior" talk and personal protection articles going around, few realize that unless you practice something as simple as drawing your concealed weapon or your carry knife under simulated real times, you will not know how you will respond nor will you know how you can handle your weapon in such stress. We practice drawing from concealment, opening our knife and work on issuing verbal commands, however, can you do the same drills in 1.5-1.75sec ? hardly anyone can as it takes longer for us to process the threat .25sec +.25sec for you to process what to do + 1.25sec to deploy said weapon and another + .025sec to use said weapon. That is pushing 2sec, how many rounds or feet can your attacker gain in 2sec ? When was the last time you worked on deploying your knife that stays inside your pocket on a clip ? can you dodge a charging suspect or counter him when he attacks ? Can you retain your weapon or disarm him when the need arises ? Are you physically able to resist an attacker long enough (15sec is all the energy you have in a fight at 100%) to gain distance or deploy your weapon ? Knowing your weapon and your limitations is vital for any person wanting to protect themselves and their loved ones from harm. Sometimes carrying a weapon and not being trained or even practicing training vids and techniques that you can see online or on DVD is doing yourself more harm than good. Remember, you do not know your attacker or their capabilities, but you do know your capabilities and that is something you can work on. Be safe, Will |
