I really like Vortex and they make high quality optics at a fair price...
But does anybody else think they missed the price point on this one ?
479.00 is the best I have seen seems a bit steep.
At the price I would rather use a Burris FF2 it is in
the ballpark of 195.00...

I've had 4 vortex products and 3 of them had warranty issues. Never again for me.

I have two of the Trijicon RMRs and I think they are worth the money and can be had much less than MSRP if you shop around.

The best warranty is the one you never have to use.

ETA: Vortex doesn't MAKE anything. They brand it. BIG difference.

I did not know that.   I thought their stuff was US made.

I think I already know what your going to say which is "buy once cry once", so what would you recommend for a low end red dot?

How low end? Primary Arms stuff gets good reviews, but they are China built as well. I know there are aimpoint deals here and there for $375 or so.

Made in a dark hole in china and the phillipines where all other budget optics are. I think the Sparc is ok for the money. Mine would just cut on and off with recoil. I think they made some design changes. Most of there stuff is bushnell / low end nikon quality but much of it is leupold/burris prices. They are trying to advertise there way out of it like nike.

They set out to create a peerless brand but in the end their stuff is no better and in some cases worse than a millett, bushnell 3200, etc. Guess what, Millett has been reliable, Lifetime warranty, and good optics for a decade.

I am an optics enthusiast. I have cheap/middle/high and I find some of the mass produced entry level stuff like bushnell banner, redfield, etc actually track and have great optics for the buck. I run NF, aimpoint, and Eotech on some rifles but always have a spare $50-$100 scope around to throw on a new gun.

With the new internet forum mentality, its almost better to be a startup than to be a company with 30 years of experience.

I had a vortex product, biggest piece of junk crap i've ever owned.. New out of the box it didn't work right, they sent me another, same issue, a third related but slightly different issue.. Garbage product they will flat out tell you on the phone they are not military grade and are not designed to take a beating.. Never again.

#1 - Sparc would turn on / off with recoil
#2 - Viper PST would drain the batteries when off. This seems like a pretty common problem.
#3 - High end rings would not tighten down on my scope. At the correct in-lb setting scope would spin. When torqued further, ring cracked

Got a low end vortex (Viper or Crossfire or something)  that is doing great though

Neither did I.. Mine didn't work right out of the box properly.. It was the razor 1-4 illumination was all screwed up.. Flickering, bad connections, new battery caps, electrical issues. The threads are all over the internet.

Vortex sells some cheap junker optics. They also make some of the best rifle scopes, binoculars, and spotting scopes available and have a reputation for the best customer service and warranty available. I love my Razor HD 5-20X50mm. Its far from cheap and has an unbeatable warranty.

C-More RTS sight.

My daughter has one on her open shotgun and it takes a pounding getting dumped into barrels and has never come off zero.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 moa and a Viper PST 2.5-10x44 moa I am very happy with both.
I have had no problem with holding zero or any other failures to report.
I know they do not even compare to Nightforce or US Optics but they meet my needs.
If I had the money in my budget I would look into them but I cant in my current position...

Even though I've been pleased with the two Vortex products (binos and a scope) - I'd go with the Burris FastFire (they make the III now) at half the price of that Vortex optic.  I've got one on a suppressed Ruger and it is probably the most fun you can have with a .22lr.  I understand 22lr is not punishing to an optic, but it has held zero and given me no problems thus far.  Plenty of FastFire's out in the marketplace as well.

Vortex sources products. Which means that their red dots don't come from the same place as their binos, which don't come from the same place as their vipers. For the money the Viper isn't a bad scope.

They brand product and market the hell out of it- which they are very successful at. Don't expect the same quality across all their lines.

Like Ross, I've also had decent luck with the Fastfire. I've also had excellent luck with the Trijicon RMR. If Joe says Katie has been running the hell out of the Cmore please believe it.
