Ok folks in a less educated period (not that long ago) I had purchased ammo as I could afford it.... Well it has bitten me in the arse. I now have 3 cases of ammo that I can not shoot at most indoor ranges because they are either steel core or bimetal jacketed and still attract a magnet.
What I need is a decent place to shoot that will allow me to use the cheap ammo I have accumulated. I don't need more than 100yards right now as I only have basic rifle competency and would like to get my groups a lot tighter before I go further.
I'm looking for someplace within 30-45 min of Kennesaw.

Cliff notes
Have penatrator and cheap bimetal ammo,
can't shoot indoors,
need a range that allows the bimetal stuff,
reasonable price and distance to Kennesaw.

ARFcom says this is impossible.

I don't see anything in Creekside's rules restricting 'normal' rifle ammunition on paper targets, they'd probably object to you using it on their steel targets.

Save ammo and buy new...

A case of pmc xtac 62gr $300, a case of wolf 55gr $210, and a case of privi I think, that I bought on clearance $200. Who knew that saving money by buying cheap ammo meant I wasn't going to be able to actually practice.
On the bright side it makes my safe heavier and harder to move.

So is it worth it to get a membership there? After a quick look at their qualifiers for when they're open it seems a little sketchy. They charge $175 a year, allow the public to shoot at rates higher than the the other ranges I've been to and they may or may not be open on any given day that I want to shoot? Sounds like fighting to keep the doors open.  That makes me a little nervous about getting a membership.

The owner is a member here, he's primarily a farmer which is why he needs some notice if folks intend to use the range Tuesday through Thursday.  The restriction on Sunday shooting came from the county.  I'm not a member there but I've been out there to shoot and he also teaches some classes that are pretty well-regarded.  Otherwise you're mainly looking at WMA ranges, such as the one at John's Mountain, and you can get some pretty sketchy characters out there, and this time of year is when you get the folks who are "sighting in their deer rifles" who don't seem to have any safety sense at all (my ex and I gave disposable earplugs to some kids once because their dad brought them out there without any).

Well I guess that makes a bit more sense then. I guess I'll have to cross reference schedules and give creekside a try.

I don't know how far this is away from you, but there's an outdoor range out near Temple.  It's not the best place in the world to test your rifle's absolute accuracy –– the benches may be less than totally stable and you share one with your neighbor.  Lots of people here say their R.O.'s can be less than professional, too.  I've shot there, though, and unless you're a precision benchrest shooter, it's a good place to go turn money into noise.  It's where I sighted in the new scopes on my AR and my .30-06 both, and I had a good time.

LOL.  I never thought of Joe as a farmer.

Instructor...yes.
Host of awesome matches...yes.
"Been there, done that" Ranger...yes.
Father, coach and mentor to one of the best 3-gun shooters in history...yes.
Owner and operator of one of the few good gun ranges with common sense rules...yes.

But farmer?  LOL.  It just doesn't sound right.

Creekside is a great range.  Make it a point to get over there and meet some of the great folks who are regulars.

That is kinda  funny isn't Mark. The range is in farm country but I haven't farmed since I was in high school LOL.

We are only open 3 days a week to the public to give our members more time alone. I chose the hours for our members.

We are not struggling to stay open. Where else can you shoot for all day for $20.00? Oh wait I forgot about the wild wild west DNR ranges. We do have a set of rules to follow. Shoot with common sense and you will have a pleasant day of shooting.

Thanks Mark for the comment about Katie. She is doing very well this year.

OK, my misunderstanding from the brouhaha regarding some of the legal stuff that I heard about regarding the land's classification a few years ago.

I meant no offense.
As far as the price goes, I failed my reading comprehension. I stopped at the hourly rate
I am looking for a good place to shoot and work myself up to competition shooting. I have a long way to go before I'll be competitive. I'm looking to find a place to grow my skills.

Then Creekside is the place you want to be. The range has a great group of members and are willing help in any way. Plus its one of the only ranges you can find that has member only pits that you can train in.

Just come out and talk to Farmer Joe.
