If your swapping one out you know your gonna need to check headspace again. At least use the tape method. Yeah, I was about to order from apex just wanted to see if a local fella had one first. Ordered it last night with 5 of their steel mags we'll see how those do as well. Never done it before is it really that difficult or just need a specialized tool? I'm definitely having it done or doing it, just not sure which yet. Lol |

If the bolt is close to headspace but a tad too tight, it can be lapped to fit. AKs need some room in the chamber because they eat rough ammo. Tight headspace will cause reliability problems. Obviously, loose headspace will cause case issues. Loose headspace is most realistically solved by replacing the bolt (again). If you get a bolt and the headspace is too tight, bring it by the shop and I can fix it. Bring ammo too, because I don't have 7.62 or 5.45 headspace gauges- : )
The easiest fix would be to buy 3 bolts and sell the two that don't fit right. |

If its too loose, well with the close tolerances of manufacture for a a polish bolt, you may find 10 identical ones if you bought 10. Now if they are used, all may have different wear on them. Heck out of 3 late 1880's British martini henrys I have the breech blocks are all so close in manufacture that changing any of the 3 out would not affect headspace. If headspace is too loose, there may be only one way to fix it. That will require pressing the barrel in a little deeper and redrilling the barrel pin hole and installing a larger barrel pin. Ak-builder.com sells above standard dia. barrel pins if needed. http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30059 This video shows the tape method for checking headspace on an AK. Yes I know it isn't the "professional" method, but 10 years ago when headspace guages for the 7.62x39 didn't exist, its the method we used to keep from blowing our guns up. Of course many people probably built them and hoped they'd be ok. This method is better than nothing, but its not the real gunsmiths way of doing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grvrQW8j4rs |

Will a Romy Bolt work in a Yugo? |
|
If the rifles are the same pattern, the bolt should work as long as headspace is correct. There is obviously risk of tolerance stacking in AKs, but that is just as likely to work for you as against you.
I tried a different search term on Apex and came up with some more options: https://www.apexgunparts.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=bolt+complete&osCsid=8a192ef5ad11c91b65801a07943d01f1&x=0&y=0 |

I was just checking. Im doing a build with non-matching barrel anyways, so I will need to set headspace. |
