I remember a thread talking about preferred flashlights.  But search didn't come up with anything. Looking to add/replace light to EDC (pocket and key chain) as well as put in the cars. Currently have mainly surefire. Thanks for the help

For a pocket light I love my LX2 Lumamax.  It is a duel out put light.  So either 50 or 200 lumens.  Only problem I have with it is that I keep breaking the pocket clip.  But luckily sure fire replaces them for free.

I carry a Surefire E2D and I keep a Fury on the nightstand.  Both great lights.

Streamlight ProTac 2AA is my daily carry with Streamlight Polytac is my backup. Great lights for the price, $40 and $35 respectively.

I've put both through Hell and they're awesome.

I use a streamlight stinger daily at work and beat the hell out of it. It works great but too big to carry, would be good to keep in a car. I don't daily carry a light, but I do have a surefire g2x that I have used a bunch for various things and have no complaints about it.

Here is your answer.

By no means am I a flashlight guy, but this light is the one I put in my pocket every day.

The moonlight setting is fantastic for keeping your ability to still see in the dark. The click or momentary ability on the switch is very nice as well.

Plus if you are near Marietta, truprep should have them in stock.

If you're near Marietta, you might want to check Going Gear. Most flashlights you'll find in one place

Breaking your pocket or your clip? I'm on my 4th or 5th pocket clip now.

They beefed them up slightly but they can still snap if you snag it on something. I've had my light about 3 years now and I still like it a lot I just wish they'd let me order extra clips. They have sent out a new one no questions asked every time I have emailed them. I think I may wait a few months and get another so I'll have a backup. I've been using the clip off my old e2e when the it does break.

I got that one on a recommendation from GaJeep94Yj and its a great light.  i took it out to Wyoming recently and in the pitch black out there, the amount of light coming from the little flashlight was amazing.  it was less than $40 as well.

I really like my Fenix TK11.  The TK12 has a belt clip.

Can't go wrong with a Surefire G2 LED either.

Roger That on the TK11.

I grabbed three (3) TK12 units for the wife and two oldest daughters.  Much MOAR complicated but couldn't  pass on the price.

Most of SureFire is 21st Century mechanical engineering with pterodactyl electronics.  After market upgrades from other places
have been a boon.

I like this one a lot too or the CR123 model, and if someone stole my current light I'd go to it. Until then, old school 6P Defender with TNVC Q5 with the Super-Secret-Elite-Tier-1-Limited-LaRue-Edition-Kydex clip (And the crowd GOES WILD!!)

But seriously....it ain't broke yet after 10 months.

I think the 4 Sevens lights are nice but I wouldn't consider one as my primary EDC light. I've had two of them have circuit boards go bad, they are great about replacing them but they aren't what I'd consider tough. The lights would still work only the modes quit working.

Thank you, I stopped by today and picked up a Fenix light and several other items (great knife selection as well).  Talked with Andy, very helpful and gave me an AR15 discount!!!  Keep the suggestions coming

I've had two go TU too.  One around 1 year and 1 in less than 6 months.  I still have one on a carbine but it doesn't get much use.

Does anybody think it's an issue if a flashlight doesn't have a clip?
8/5/2012 1:48:07 AM EDT

not to hijack the thread, but how do these work with all the various output modes? For a bedside or light to be used defensively i want to have a momentary on when i push it in a little.  I also want it to come on when i click it and off when i click it again. I dont want it to start cycling through a bunch of different settings. Do any of these work like that? Sorry to hijack the thread or if i didnt make this clear.

PS is there a forum on the board that discusses flashlights?

Bradd, I personally don't think so, but I'd compare it to carrying a pistol in a holster vs. in a waistband with the kydex trigger guard. Both styles work, but the latter (depending on your waist and clothing styles) does not do anything to stop shifting, leading to inconsistent draw. I just like to know I can always reach for my light in the same place, and know that it's not losing battery in my pocket all day.

Dana,

For lights with momentary  feature, the momentary-press / constant-on switch still works.

Honestly I just like to keep it simple with a single output light with momentary-clicky switch like my 6Ps, but after the last lowlight class I am considering a strobe. Look at some of the stuff here for the modes, it's not impossible and you can learn it like anything else in life, I just prefer simplicity.

What about lumens?  Isn't anything beyond 80 or so too much to be effective?

Effective in terms of what?

I don't use my 200+ lumen light to check around spaces and stuff, that's what my cheap penlight is for. Or those $1 to $10 cheapo multi-LED lights that you can find everywhere, including in our store.

Some like to consolidate that into something like the LX2 everyone likes. My trucker buddy carries a G2X Pro for 15  and 200 modes and the Fury does 5 or 15 and 500. Great stuff. I think some of the Elzettas or Fenix also have dedicated low and high buttons.

There can certainly be too much output for indoor use if you consider backsplash and reflections.

Since it's more likely I would need the light for indoors or up close outdoors, I'm thinking some of these lights may be too much.  I like the 4sevens lights, but the failures people are reporting concern me.  I really like simple, too, so I was looking at a Surefire G2X, but I just think 200 lumens is too much.

You want to borrow one of mine and try it around your house to see?

I got handheld and weapon-mounted you can try. All floating in the 200-250 range, including a 6PX Tactical.

I don't think youn highjacking, because I would prefer a light that you push for low lumens and push further for high output, seems that surefire lumanex is the only one. I did get a remix light but don't like how you have to cycle through for all the modes, and I don't need nor like the SOS mode.

They also talk carry lights in "carry issues" sometimes, under the handgun section.

Ya'll need to get the Going Gear people to talk about the light with the sliding magnetic switch for modes or something. Looked slick, I think that was them.

I want to see a Wicked-Laser in action.  4100 lumens of goodness.  You can start fires, melt cups, pop balloons, melt phones, make hippies cry, and cook a scrambled egg with it.
