I tried to swap out the internals and its been a huge PITA. I just want to have it fixed. I already have the parts.

Most plumbers wont use customers parts. There isn't anything inside that you can't fix with a pair of slip joint pliers and a screwdriver.

More Fiber in your diet will prevent these issues....
