If anyone has been looking for a set of tools, Craftsman has their 309 piece tool set on sale right now for $199. If your a member of "e-bates" and you go through that site you can get 7% back from them. I've been looking at this set for a while, it has the most sockets compared to their other sets, its not one of those sets with 40 screw drivers. Usually it retails for $399 but can be found at $249 much of the time and rarely it goes on sale for $199. If you want to get some tools for yourself or an aspiring mechanic you can't beat this set.

That's a pretty damn good deal. The set of ratcheting wrenches would be that much alone if they were Gearwrench brand, and probably no better quality.
I might have to pick up a set for the new house since work is making us use supplied toolboxes and take ours home.

We still have to provide tools, they're just making us use their toolboxes so everything matches.
In other words I'm going to have an $8k Matco toolbox in my garage with next to no tools in it because of the new dealer "image" they're after. |

Ordered one of these for my dad. Noticed at lest 5 of the sockets do not have any chrome inside them. Only looked at about half of them. Going to call the customer service number Monday. That's because Crapsman sucks, and has for several years. Their newer tools are not built to the same quality standards as the ones they built their reputation on. Their combination wrenches aren't the same size on each end, ratchets are poorly finished with machine marks and plastic buttons/release levers, some socket extensions are missing the retention dimples so they fall off the ratchet, sockets have thin and/or missing chrome, etc. At one time, Craftsman made quality tools for people who actually use them. Now they make toolbox fillers for housewives and guys who might occasionally change their own oil or change a battery in a kid's toy. |

Fork Sears, Craftsman and anything they sell.
I used to be a loyal Sears customer including appliance, lawn equipment, hand tools tools ETC but the local franchise and lack of support from the corporate office did a great job alienating a once loyal customer. I'll take Gear Wrench for a few $$$ more. I busted a 13mm Gear Wrench 3/8" socket a few weeks ago. A simple call to their toll free customer service number resulted in a new socket delivered to my front door free of charge. That's what I call customer service...!!!!! TD |
