| I know I'm setting myself up for ridicule here, but can anybody recommend some good wrist exercises to help strengthen my wrist to better handle recoil from larger caliber handguns? |
You're gonna catch hell for that one, but this will work well.
Easy to make, here's a link to a basic one. http://coachlevi.com/training/how-to-make-wrist-roller/ I made mine a little differently. Used a threaded pipe flange and a 10" section of pipe on which to mount weights; made it a little more stable and easier to add/remove weights. Then just twist it up and twist it down... |

I was just going to say whacking off, but dammit, this takes the cake. |

Get a small dumbbell and hold it in your hand. Place your forearm on your bench with the dumbbell over the edge and you wrist close to the edge palm up. Now, slowly let the dumbbell roll down your hand to your finger tips. Stop letting it roll BEFORE it falls from your fingertips. Now the fun part, roll it back up your fingers until you get it back in your grip and then roll(curl) your wrist up while leaving your forearm on the bench. Repeat.
My cousin used this when training for arm wrestling. Hope this helps. ByteTheBullet (-: |

I use a grip spring. Also do dumbbell static wrist rolls.
Hold forearms horizontal and stable, lift dumbbell by wrist only. Overhand and underhand. Horizontal pulups help back and forearm strength, to make you look jacked in that sweet IPSC stance. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
farmers carry with dumbells start low and build your way up i do it with 100 pound dumbbells, we have a long hall at the gym i go to it is about 45 yards long i go up and down that hall way as many times as i can until i cant grip the dumbbells any more. i am sure there are some studs here that could do it will 400 pounds but unfortunately my gym doesn't supply gorilla grade dumbbells look at this video for an example of the exercise no that is not me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6BtgMiYrdE&feature=related also if you want another good one if you go to a gym and have any kind of cable machine or pull up station it should have several different handles that allow you to use different grips for pull ups. use it like monkey bars keep moving your grip around like you would on a set of monkey bars from rung to rung if you really want a good burn do a few pull ups in between grip changes it will smoke your forearms and wrists. i have small wrists so i have to do what i can to keep them strong it takes a while to build up to heavy dumbbells but you will be able to tell a huge difference in wrist strength. it works much better than wrist curls or any other wrist exercise that i have found, granted that is my opinion and i am sure somebody will have a different one so take it for what its worth. |

Captains of Crush are used by lots of competitive shooters, as are Heavy Grips
Lots of good info on both sites about grip training. I ordered the 150lb, 200lb, and 250lb. Haven't even bothered to take the 250 out of the packaging yet. You may want to get less than 50lb increments as you progress! |
