New Jersey Governer, Chris Christie, has lowered all of the Flags at governement buildings in Jersey to honor Whitney Houston.  WTF!

Doesn't surprise me. She was the biggest thing to come out of there. He is doing it to make sureNJ stays in the spotlight as long as possible. He wants the press and the money that comes along with that.

Try as  he might, he ain't going to convince the Whitneys to vote Republican!

Governor's perogative. Although it's a violation of flag etiquette, I can't say it really surprises me since lesser people have been honored as much. Soldiers slain in battle rarely get that honor. Around here, our department heads in local government order flags lowered for employee deaths. My protests fall on deaf ears. My understanding is that only the governor and the president can order the lowering of the flag, but I could be wrong.

roy d...sure it's sweet and all, but way outside their pay grade.

Yup.  Our nation cares more about strung-out, coked-up has-beens than people that actually did something worth a damn.

I've stood on the tarmac waiting for the remains of real heroes to land and seen one camera covering the arrival (which resulted in a ten second mention on the evening news).  This freak had non-stop helicopter filmed footage with commentary of the last ten minutes of the flight into NJ and an additional five minutes staring at a closed hangar.

The dumbass mixed pills and alcohol to get a high and killed herself.  Boo f'n hoo.  Everyone cheers when an unknown druggie does this- what's the difference between them and her?  She could sing 20 years ago?  Wow, that's awesome.

I read somewhere that NJ does that for its slain soldiers. I don't think Whitney Houston deserves the same recognition but then again, no way in hell would I ever live in NJ

Who are the Whitneys?  She had one of the widest audiences of any female singer out of the 80s and early 90s.  I'm just saying, be careful with ignorant remarks.

Many singers have died of similar causes and you guys single out Whitney. Do you feel the same about Elvis, hank Williams , etc?

There were many people who wanted Chris Christie to be on GOP ticket for Prez in '12

If NJ does, in fact, fly the Colors at half staff for every fallen Soldier/Sailor/Marine/Airman, then good on them.

BUT, for an entertainer?  Who "set the example" with drug use and public misbehavior?  The Colors flying at half staff is a symbol of the Nation's debt to the fallen- what are we indebted to her for, again?

I can't say I agree with it either.  I think 1/2 staff should be for soldiers and leaders, such as elected officials, and 'major' events (such as remembrance holidays, 9/11, etc.).  Yes we can say there's lots of politicians that don't deserve it, but I don't think political affiliation /  leaning matters in this topic.  You served, you earned it.

That said, while I don't agree with this for Whitney (or just about any other singer / ballplayer for that matter) I did hear on the radio the governor of NJ does do this for fallen soldiers from NJ as well as other NJ "stars".  So at least he's consistent & not trying to make any specific statement with Houston, other than he feels it's right.  As long as he's consistent I may not agree with every one, but I can respect it.

I agree with you, just stating something that I read and heard, to be fair. In teh end, it's a judgement call and anyone that doesn;t liek it should run for Gov in NJ

If true then I stand corrected but having never heard of it and no NJ resident has come forward to the media to say that NJ has in fact done this then we are left to wonder.
