Note: The fire happend in Dallas, Texas. I jumped the gun... still sad. Quoted:
I am not a religious person, but today I can only hope that god listens to the pleas from heathens. My cousin, PVT Thomas Williams is in trouble. He graduated Basic Training last week and came home to his young wife and two children before moving on to AIT. Sometime yesterday there was a fire at their home, and his son was killed, and his infant daughter and young wife are in critical condition with smoke inhalation and soot in their lungs. My cousin is OK, physically, no serious injuries, but emotionally I can only imagine the torment and agony he is in. Thomas is in his early twenties, and has had a tough life, he lost his father six years ago, to lung cancer, and has worked his ass off at truly crappy jobs since he was 18 supporting his wife and kids. He busted his butt to finish high school, and then again to get into the Army. He is a tough kid, at his young age he is one of the best hunters I have ever met (he hunted with his father since he could walk). He comes from a poor family, but he never complained, he just worked harder to give them the best he could provide. He joined the Army to better himself, and provide better for his family. His entire family is here in GA, he is now in Dallas, a thousand miles from friends or family, I cannot imagine how alone he feels right now when he needs his family more than ever. His mother and brother will be there late tonight, but until then he will need an awful lot of strength. Please, I know that during the holidays we all have so much on our plates, so many of our own problems that we are concerned with, that it is difficult to find sympathy for strangers, but this kid deserves it. As I said, I am not religious, but he is, he takes strength from his beliefs, and for his sake I am praying to god for him, and hope somebody else will as well. As of right now I don't know a whole lot of details, pretty much what I have posted here. I know that he has lost everything, but I also know him, he didn't have much to lose, other than his family, and he has lost his son, and nobody knows if his wife and daughter will live, if you can spare a moment to pray that no more is taken from him, and for him to be given the strength to carry on with what is left, I would appreciate it. Please post in the GD link for consolidation. -SS |

Get them back home to Georgia where they can be amongst family to help them, both physically and mentally. Both Doctors Hospital in Augusta, and Grady downtown have excellent burn centers.
If they need any help with getting them back to Georgia, I know a few folks in the air ambulance business who may have some leads on discounted or free "mercy" flights, especially for the child. |

I just talked to the Lightning P38- I am making a trip to Wal Mart in Cumming in the morning to buy a bunch of clothes and toys for the little girl; I will be shipping them immediately afterward to Lightning P38 (he lives right down the street from the Soldier's mother, who will be travelling to Texas).
If anyone wants to come and join in, call me at Seven Seven Zero Six Three Zero Six Seven Five Two; we can make it an ARFCOM event of sorts. |

I asked in GD but, got no response. What AIT is he going to? He is going to Ft Benning for AIT. It looks like the HTF will have the opportunity to get to know this young man. Lightning_P38 told me today that he wants to get a shoot together with him while he is here. |
