I know this topic has been discussed on a million threads with everybody giving a different answer  I figure I would ask it again.  On my PSA  build the PSA MOE lower build kit came with a standard buffer and I am planning on going with a PSA midlength upper should this work fine or should I go with the H buffer (reasons for or against the standard buffer).
Thanks in advance for the advice!

I have never had any trouble with different weight buffers in a middy or carbine. Probably any would be fine. I use H buffers and Spikes ST-T2 in my 16" ar's.

I use a T2 in my 20" AR, works great.

Help me out here. All my rifles have std buffers and have great reliability out of all of them, what would I gain by swapping buffers? I know this is a topic for another forum but atleast here I know the guys answering the question. I waste enough money on stuff for my guns, I dont want too add a couple hundred dollars worth of buffers to the pile of parts that I consider a waste.

i have been running the buffers to help tune my rifles, at the next ARFCOM shoot i'll let you throw in a T2 buffer and see if you like it. i feel, and this is my opinion, that they soften felt recoil and muzzle bounce. i have let alot of ARFCOMMERS shoot my rifles. most shoot and have the pernagrin . between the T2 and the FSC556, the rifles have VERY little movement and make floow up shots VERY fast. i do contend that AR15's have little recoil to start with, but it more fun to shoot something that i can shoot all afternoon, without my shoulder and back killing me

This is true for me also. I think, if you were running it in a FA, it is also supposed to slow the rate of fire?

My AR feels smoother with the T2, and I have also noticed that it seemed to get rid of that spring twang and vibration you normally get, especially under rapid fire.

Either a standard or an H buffer will work fine.

The only guns I tend to run heavier buffers in are are carbine length gas systems or 9mm's where it is actually necessary.

Another much less costly method is to run an extra power buffer spring. Wolf makes a +10% spring and all of the ISMI's re XP.

The spring gives better reliability in my opinion by providing  more reliable feeding due to increased spring pressure to strip and feed rounds out of the magazine. It will also slow bolt speed just like adding a heavier buffer at the cost of about $10.

Mid-length and rifle gas systems do not benefit from heavier buffers, but if it makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy, go for it.

I run a Spike's T2 in my 16" middy also, and I agree with the above.  It may just be my imagination, but it does feel like it runs smoother, and the "sproinnnnng" has vanished.  In my opinion, installing the Spike's buffer and the Rainier RMC comp are the two best additions I've made to my rifle, all else being mostly stock.  Next might be a better trigger, but that'll be down the road a piece.

I give you the credit for selling me on the FSC556 when you let me borrow your LMT.  There's a very noticeable difference in smoothness and muzzle flip than you get from a STD buffer and an A2 compensator.  I'm very satisfied with this combo.

I've run both in my 16" BCM mid length and never had a problem with either. The only reason I switched buffers is that I started using a suppressor. Running suppressed it seemed over gassed to me so I switched to the H buffer (I think Bookhound was the one who suggested this). I've had zero problems with the H buffer running suppressed or unsuppressed.

I was worried that the H buffer might cause short stroking problems when the rifle was dirty. But I've run it in 3 rifle classes this year (unsuppressed) and I've never had a malfunction that wasn't user or ammo induced. I cleaned and lubed the rifle before each class and ran it all day without re-lubing.

But if it weren't for the suppressor, I personally would have had no reason to switch from the standard buffer. YMMV......

I've purchased an H2 buffer for the rifle that I'm building now, which will be a 16" mid-length with a BattleComp and Geissele trigger. I wanted to build the fastest, softest shooting carbine that I could.  I've got everything except the barel and comp, and I should have those by Christmas.  I'll post up my results for those who have the same dilemma.  I don't mind being the guinea pig.

I have a roughed up Battle Comp 1.0 on my current rifle if you want it....it's yours. You just have to do the work to get it off and put an A2 back on.

As for the barrel....PM sent.
