Are there any common matches where you carry both a pistol and a rifle and have to transition from one to another?

Ive only seen the .22 matches at Creekside, but nothing for Big Kid Rounds. Let me know if you find anything.

In other matches, do they do active transitions or do they drop one and move on to the other?

This is standard behavior at the River bend 3-gun matches, when they occur.

I suspect there will be one coming up after the first of the year.

One of the first Creekside 3 gun matches I attended had one stage where you used all three guns –– fun but if you did not have your slings set up correctly it was a big disadvantage.

They held these all the time at Ft. Benning and were much better than the usual 3-gun.

I miss the good ole' days.

Not an answer to the original question, but...The guys from CavArms had some, and the format probably still exists, where you could literally only use what you carried with you on your person all day.  So, you could carry all the magazines and ammo you want, in your gear, or in a pack, but you have to hump it around all day, and on every stage.  This was to keep people from switching things out, using multiple weapons based on the stages, etc.  It also made people think hard about how much crap they really wanted strapped to their gear and rifle.  It was also to simulate a patrol officer or line infantryman's loadout a little.  You can't always go back to your car or base to get something you left.
