Alright - I've been infected with something much worse than BRD - I have NFAD! I have two form 1s for SBRs and a form 4 for a .22lr suppressor out at the moment. I've now blown through my gun money for a while (only need to purchase receiver extension tube for current Sig 556 SBR project and a front iron site). I bought an AAC Element .22lr can this morning that is going to go on my Sig 522. Besides the 522, I'm also wanting to build a .22lr upper for my SBR lower. I don't know if I want to buy a .22lr upper or if I want to put together another 5.56 upper and put a .22 conversion kit on it. Any suggestions? Regardless, this is months away. If I go the 5.56 upper route, then I'll get the barrel chopped to 7.5" so I can take off the .22 can and have a really shoot 5.56 upper. If I go .22 upper, then I'l chop it on down to 5.5". My other dliemna is if I should buy a .22 pistol before I bother putting together another upper (since I already have a 522). I know it is ultimately my decision, but my mind is going in all sorts of directions and I wouldn't mind some input. Thanks.

| I have a dedicated AA. 22 G19 and a dedicated AR with a spikes. .22 upper. The lower for the .22 is out pending now and I will cut that one down. I think PSA or CMMG are coming out with 6" dedicated uppers soon, that's the way I would go because I wouldn't want to shoot a conversion through a can. |
|
Oh, God. I hope they do some out with dedicated uppers, but then again, I hope they don't. I'm draining my account! Oh well. Looking at PSA, they already sell a .22 upper with the bolt and low profile FSB for $350. Not too bad. I don't mind breaking it down and shipping off the barrel.
One of my concerns is shooting a conversion kit, especially with a can. For some reason, I feel more comfortable shooting firearms that are made specifically for what I am shooting. |

1. Slow Down.
2. Threaded 22 Pistol. Ruger makes a factory Threaded MKIII 22/45. You'll shoot this more than any rifle. Trust me. 3. Threaded .22 Rifle. Savage makes a really nice MKII for just about $200. You'll shoot this more than any semi rifle as it is balls quieter than anything else out there. 4. Now worry about the AR Upper. Personally I have found conversions to to....problematic. I run a S&W M&P15-22 myself and love it. I've had 2 bolt conversions and a TacSol .22 Upper and they straight up did not function reliably. Best of luck on your quest for a .22 upper. |

1. Yes. I will slow down. I figure with as many things "pending" at the moment, I should chill. It is addicting, though. 2. I was thinking of a .22 pistol...Walther something or other? I'll looking into a Ruger. I've pretty much just been having fun putting ARs together. 3. I'm thinking a bolt would make it much quieter. I'll certainly look into it. It sounds awesome to be able to buy a complete firearm for less than what I just paid for a rail... 4. Thanks for the info. on an AR upper and the conversions. Like I said earlier, something just doesn't feel right to me when shooting something out of a firearm that it was not designed to shoot. Is there is big difference in sound between the supersonic and subsonic 22lr ammo? Someone earlier was telling me that they just shoot regular 22lr ammo because it is cheaper. When it comes down to about $0.04/round vs. about $0.06/round, then I'd rather shoot the subsonic if it makes that big of a difference. With that being said, any suggestions on subsonic ammo that is reliable?

Out of a 5-7" barrel you usually won't know the difference between standards and subs at our elevation. PS- steer clear of the wather. |

I feel your pain on the dang NFA stuff.
I run a 7.5 with a Ciener kit and a Sparrow. I have not had any issues. I agree with D on the Ruger. I have a Buckmark that I have sunk a pretty penny into and my dad picked up a threaded Mark III for half the price. The Savage is next on my list. |

1st 22 pistol, it will be the most shot...I have a buckmark and I had the stock barrel threaded. much cheaper but not as bling.
2nd 22 bolt, they are crazy quiet and will just make you smile. I would probably stop there. i have a dedicated spikes upper and love it. I would go the dedicated route, as ofthers have said the conversions seem to have lots of problems during the .22 2xgun match. subs are much quieter out of longer barrels. all stay subsonic out of my buckmark. speaking of .22 matches, if you are near www.creeksidefiringrange.com they are having a .22 2xgun match on the 10th. I will be there for the pistol steel challenge later that day but if you want to try the 22 match I would be happy to come to it and let you run my stuff. just supply the ammo (yes I am that cheap!). I don't have a bolt gun (yet) but I do have the rest of the combos you mentioned if you wanna try it out. |

Thanks! gayjee - I'm working this coming up Saturday. Damn. It actually sounds like fun. It's probably better I don't try anything out right now because I do have money to spend, but I'm trying to be responsible. Tough to do at times... Also - Why steer clear of the Walther? I've never shot one, so I don't know. I will say that I've heard warnings about it before (generic, nothing specific) and only hear rave reviews of the Ruger 22 pistols. |

Tough to do at times... ask ExKali about just "trying" something once! no problem, the 10th is the first day in a while I have a break and can get to the range. |
