Some folks may question why you would destroy what appears to be a decent car......Not me though, I never saw anything that didn't look like it would be fun to destroy. My only criticism is that you didn't give it any track time. I wanted to, but I didn't want to make anymore of a mess than I already did...somehow a piece of that explorer will grow legs and run full speed into one of my tires before it's all over with. And it was decent, but it needed fender, good, and fuel pump, and honestly I'll get more from the scrap yard than selling it. |

what was the excavator you were using? i've spent a lot of time on my old junk backhoe, but i always thought big diggers were where the real fun happens. It's a john deere 690E, one of the tracks needs to be tightened, but I'll find more stuff to crush over the long weekend hopefully. |

Damn, I 'm looking for one of those for my daughter's first vehicle. I had a 94 with 178k on it that I traded on cash for clunkers for more than I had in it. The thing was a tank, it still ran like a champ even though it had intersected the path of 3 cars and 1 deer. I never repaired any of the body damage and the only part that was obvious was a bent bumper from when somebody rearended me at 35 while I was sitting at a light. I'm sad to see it's demise, but I bet you had fun doing it.

I didn't think there was any money to be made scraping cars. Someone told me that unless you could get it to the scrap yard for little to no cost, that it was hard to even break even.
I gotta car that needs scraping. I have been think about shooting it a bunch as well but I don't want to clean it up after I make the mess. |

The key is stripping all the plastic/fluids/tires out of it. Also take all the aluminum off of engine and scrap it seperate. |

i hauled about 1000 lbs of miscellaneous steel that had accumulated at my place off last week. Scrap yard paid $13/100 for the mixed metals.
I had some copper from my old HVAC we replaced earlier this year. that stuff netted $3.25/lb. Walked out with a check for $320 and some change. Wish I could find more...I had about an hour in loading it all on the trailer and an hour in breaking down the old unit. |

you are getting alot more for your cars than you thinl
PSA: If you have an old car laying around be careful. We have baddies that are riding around while you are at work, scooping up your car and scrapping it for cash. I can not prove it but I am worried some of the scrap yards may be a little less than honest if they can crush it immediately. |

I thought the alternator housing was but turns out that it is cast steel on mine. Also, is it worth it to strip the cat conv. out? I know that they were being stolen awhile back. |
