| How in the fuck does anyone kill that many people? How can any place be that damned easy to slaughter over 90 people? |
|
1. Planning. Using diversion to draw away first responders.
2. Isolation. It's on an island. Nice and away from the road. 3. Slight of Hand. He was dressed like an LEO. Say what you will but he was a smart planner. "Come here if you want to stay safe, I'm a cop" 4. Timidness. It has been reported that some First responders delayed they response to the island as they were afraid of booby traps. This gave the perp more time. 5. Complacency. No one ever thought something like this would happen. 6. Disparity. Another lunatic who felt slighted by the ruling party. Whether he was or not it still happened. |

wife is from sweden and the swedish papers are reporting far more details. they are reporting he was dressed as a cop and had them all come over to him before he started shooting. plus he had all the time in the world since most people were worrieed about the bomb. the kids that survived reported he was sitting on the shore throwing rocks at the kids who were swimming under water to get away.
also reporting there were 2 shooters, not 1. get this. the worst prison sentence in Norway: 21 years. he will be up for mandatory parole hearings in 14 years. and it doesnt matter what he is in there for, only how he has acted since he got there! also the Swedish papers are posting much more graphics pics. here they wont show a body, let alone one of a minor. over there they show everything. |

I'm norwegian, prison sentances are longer than 21 years. I'm sure reports are going to be full of bullshit just like the "norways luxury prison" article. your parents are norwegian or you grew up and lived there? this info was from the swedish newspapers not the American news. swedish paper |

They were on an island. Not a lot of places to hide, and a long time to be found. He was shooting people as they tried to swim away.
He shot dead people and people playing dead. He looked like a cop, and he shot the off-duty cop working security at the beginning. He called people his direction, then shot them. Kids. A lot of teenagers. Think about it. They're going to gravitate toward an authority figure calling them that way. And when there's chaos, they're not going to react the same way as adults. Their survival instincts aren't necessarily fully developed, since they've been sheltered by their parents for their whole lives to date. Kids aren't going to see the desperate nature of the situation, band together, and mount a counter attack. They're going to scatter erratically and make easy targets. Planning. This guy had been planning this very attack since at least 2009, and maybe a little bit all the way back to 2002. |

What I don't understand is if this freak was anti-muslim and wanted to start a revolution, why would he target innocent kids at a youth camp? Why would he not shoot up a mosque or something to that effect? Those poor kids had nothing to do with the government or his religious views.
It really sickens me that he had planned this so long. He wrote a 1500 page manifest about what would happen and why he is doing what he did. I find it hard to believe that people didn't know this guy was off and alert authorities. Him ordering 6 tons of fertilizer, whether he owned a small farm or not, should have been a clue. |

Dan, from what I have read this camp was sponsored by the Labor Party, which I am guessing is the more liberal leaning of the parties there. It would be the equivalent of some far right leaning sociopath attacking a Democratic Party youth gathering here. I am agreement that these kids were innocents but he evidently either saw them as a threat or as an opportunity to make a point. I am also sure that we will be hearing about this for a good long while. |

Him ordering 6 tons of fertilizer, whether he owned a small farm or not, should have been a clue. The event was attended by a number of Muslims. One of the victims they interviewed was shot 4 times, and played dead in the cold water. He's 17, and he's been in Norway for two years, after applying for asylum from Afghanistan. Norway has a very open policy when it comes to people seeking asylum from war-torn nations. Because these days, most of the wars in the world are fought in Muslim nations, most of the refugees are Muslim. This creates an increase in Muslim immigrants to Norway, and Europe as a whole. The very liberal Labor Party there is all for this. The event was a youth political gathering sponsored by the Labor Party. That's why this particular event was chosen, as well as the government offices for the bombing. Ultimately, the guy admitted that it was just to gain attention to his manifesto. The worse the act, the more attention. He writings explain how he got away with everything up until the attack, and how to start your own cell or plan your own attack, and encouraged other like-minded individuals to do the same. It included things like being nice to your neighbors and bringing them food. How to hide your operations while still being sociable. How to buy large quantities of fertilizer and fake a farm business to do so. He actually rented a farm, where he built most of the bomb. The landlord came around one day, and nearly discovered the bomb making. |

Actually the camp is a Young Socialists camp with tracks back to communists. It doesn't excuse anything but may help explain it. More interesting info from wiki: At 17:27 the local police district learned about the shooting, and two minutes later the police in Oslo were informed. By 17:38, the Norwegian central anti-terrorist unit Beredskapstroppen was dispatched to Utøya from their headquarters in Oslo. However special forces in Oslo did not have an operative helicopter available that could take them straight to the island. The only helicopter available to the Oslo-based unit was a military one parked 60km south of the capital at Moss Airport in Rygge, and thus the special unit had to reach the location by cars.[58] They reached the ferry crossing at 18:09, but had to wait a few minutes for a boat to take them across. They reached Utøya at 18:25, and two minutes later they arrested the gunman.

I just read a news report this morning that says that the Prime Minister of Norway was the planned target on the island. But he was delayed for some reason and the gunman started shooting the kids. He probably would have shot at them anyway, but now it makes more sense why he picked that place to begin with. The PM was supposed to be touring the island.
Looks like a lot of shootings happened in the US over the weekend as well with gunmen shooting multiple people for different reasons. Hopefully this crap stops. |

Makes me think of the old saying about why people carry, "when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away." |
