| Once again, having to disarm going thru SC on the way to my brothers wedding in NC, really sucks. The center console in my vette barely fits my ccw gun, so it kinda stays cocked open. I was pissed yet again we have no reciprocity agreement I did not stop to take a break until I was in NC. |

SC requires some sort of class [ie safety, proficiency etc.] be taken in your home state in order to have reciprocity. Or at least that's what "They" say. GA has no such requirement for it's GWL0
Anyway, SC's not going to loosen their restrictions any time soon and GA's not likely to institute a class so looks like us that live/work/travel/ around the line are screwed. Unless you want to get an out of state non-res permit that sc honors, but even then you have to watch because sometimes non-res ccw's are not valid for reciprocity. |

| Sucks even more living in Augusta. My wife works in North Augusta and can't carry across the river while traveling to/from work. It's entirely stupid for adjoining states not to have reciprocity, especially for people who live in a city which straddles the state line. |

Is a good class. Covers what a person needs to know and you have to shoot also. I took the class just to take it. I would have no problem if Georgia went to a class requirement and opened up more states for us. I don't think GA should change their requirements, if anything offer another license that involves training in order to get reciprocity with places like SC. |

I've recently relocated to about 300 yards to the other side of the South Carolina border. It has become a royal PITA to stay within the letter of the law in respect to carrying a concealed weapon. I had to take the class, which was worthy by the way. It was a good class for those that don't know what they don't know and I personally have no problem with it other than....once you give the government and inch they want ten miles next.
So now I have applied for my SC license and I need to get a non resident UTAH license in order to legally carry in Georgia since I work about 300 yards just on the other side of the border. Such a racquet.

My FIL lives in the upstate. He has a permit that reciprocates with GA. Thought he said NH?
I don't think it was passed but I recall hearing about a proposed law that would have changed the permit process in SC. A side effect of that was possible reciprocity with us. Since South Carolinian's have an 'out' to carry here, I don't see them pushing the legislature too hard to get the laws changed. I hope they prove me wrong. Having an optional GA class in order to pick up reciprocity is a great idea. It could be 'encouraged' but not required for any permit holder. Like 00bullitt just said though, give 'em an inch and soon enough it wouldn't be optional anymore. |
