Got my current GA Power bill in.... not much more usage, but the bill more than doubled.... normally 300 to 350... rang up at $668.... Called as to inquire why... and the response I get??

"Sir... usage goes way up this time of year, and we have to go up on our rates to cover the expenses of more staff and such.... "

I'm calling BS.... however, I'm still on the hook for the bill no matter what... Just my little rant...

Anybody else experience this yet??

GA Power does have Summer and Winter rates but the difference is minimal.

I don't care what the person told you over the phone. Your bill went up because it's been in the 90's or hotter depending on your location and your AC has probably been running almost nonstop keeping your home comfortable.

It's like I tell people that complain about gas prices. I always tell them have a choice however unpleasant they might be.

Turn of your AC and I promise you your bill will drop to $100.00 or less on the average house.

Tree,

I do agree... the ac has been running a little more... as we both know... however, 25% more electricity should not equate to 100% increase in cost...

Just got my bill - exactly same consumption as last year - 1416 kwh.

The bill with, the junk fees, was 12% higher - exact same 1416 kwh consumption.

they hammer us in the summer, their power their rules. it sucks, OP i feel your pain

actually, the cost per kilowatt hour is CHEAPER in the summer than in the winter.  believe it or not.

it's the cost of fuel.  the FRC allows for the variable costs of fuel to create the electricity to be passed one 1:1.  they are not allowed to profit on that. it's the fixed costs that put the rate cases have to be put in for.  and it's not just this month, the extreme spike in fuel over the last 3 months is just not being passed on.

I feel your pain too.

Did the bill somehow include last months bill?

I am with Cobb EMC and my current bill is twice what it was for the same period last year. If I remember correctly, last May/June was much cooler than it was this May/June. My usage was almost 2 times last years.

It really doesn't matter who your power provider is, all the power is bought from the various power plants around the state.

Most all the plants are coal fired, and they each run through 300 to 600 train cars of coal per day. Some of this coal comes from as far away as Wyoming. Transport costs (fuel etc) have more than doubled in the past couple of years, and these costs are carried on to us consumers.

This is just one of several reasons costs have gone up, but I'm sure it is a significant one.

We keep our thermostat at 73 during the summer months. Our sewage trash pickup and electricity run $250-$275 per month during the hottest times of the year.

Ya'll don't have a flat rate plan? Mine went from $135/month to $159/month from last year to this year. My house is < 1600sq ft. When I look at the actual utilization, it is pretty high during the summer months, but things even out in the cooler months. Makes budgeting a whole lot easier.

My BIL does residential HVAC. I just moved his phone system to his new location, so I'll be getting some blown in insulation in my attic when his crews slow down a bit. Hopefully the electric and gas bills go down a bit.

I've been watching my Ga Power bills at the shop of late, and had recently come to the conclusion that my costh/KWH had gone up ~10%~. Thanks for the confirmation.

Inflation is a b!+(h! If'n ya ain't prepping yourself for "stagflation" yer missin' the boat.......  IMHO

BTW: You people on GPC consider yourself lucky.

You would piss yourself if you saw what people serviced by Possum Pouch EMC or any of the other numerous EMC or co-op scattered around the rural areas of the state pay for power.

Hell, I wish I could get phone service from AT&T or Bellsouth.

I pay $50.00 a month for DSL from Rural Progressive Phone Co.

Those that claim it's cheaper to live in the country are full o crap or they have never lived there.

At the house I'm on Central GA EMC. I'd give my left gonad to be on GA Power, but it stops about 2 miles up the road.

As for DSL, Pffft there is NO such thing where I live.I'd be THRILLED to be able to pay $50/month for DSL. There is NO DSL within 8 miles of where I live. You are reading this post compliments of DURN SLOOOOOOW dial-up. Like it or not I've KNOWN about  LIVED country living for the past ~25~ years!

Wouldn't trade the freedom to piss off the front porch for DSL tho!

I pay around $250-$300 in the summer for trash, water, and electricity.  I have a 1800 sq ft house with the a/c set on 70 during the day and 73 at night,  I also have 2 kids that leave all sorts of electronics on all the time.  In winter I pay from $170-$230 for the same utilities, i am in the south GA and pay the city directly.

My power bill has always been high no matter where I live. Throughout the year I keep it cold in my house. It usually is around 70-72 because I hate being hot. Also usually have two fans rolling in my bedroom. One floor fan blowing on me and a ceiling fan. If not, I will wake up in a puddle of sweat. Wife hates it and the kids have not gotten old enough to complain yet.

I'm with snapping shoals, and their service has been great. I don't know if it's headquarters, but their office is right down the road. They keep a ballzillion trucks and staff ready to go. When they come around and trim trees, they've actually taken down trees for me that weren't near power lines, bucked them to firewood length, and stacked them.

I'm on a flat rate plan. I keep it around 69 during the day downstairs, 75 upstairs. Drops to 67 and 73 at night. I have to be cold to sleep. And I'll pay for it, or make up for it in the winter by keeping the heat low. Before my son was born, we used to keep the house at 58 in the winter.

The fire station where I work is a 54 year old building. Where most of us sleep, we keep the main ac on 65 (only that high so it doesn't freeze up) and the window unit on it's coldest and fastest setting. Year round. Air conditioning in the winter. And there are four box fans strategically placed at the vents to circulate the cold air.

It took some getting used to.  Before I worked at this station, the engine I was on had to standby at my current station.  I'd never been there before.  It was summertime, and hot outside, so we were all glad that it was nice and cool in the dayroom, but we were puzzled as to why there were jobshirts and sweatshirts hanging up.  In the summer.  It took about 10 minutes to figure it out, and we all had to take occasional trips outside to warm up.  Now, it's beautiful.  I love it.  Of course, the county air conditioner guy that came last time said that if he came back and saw the thermostat set at 55 again, he'd set it at 72 and put a lock box on it.

Yeap... I have no complaints about Snapping Shoals here in Walton county.  However Lawrenceville, City of, utilities can suck a you know what.
