Speaking of dry firing, what is safe to dry fire and what is not? I have heard that centerfires are ok and rimfires/shotguns are not.

i know for a fact that ar's and pistols are g2g.

i'm not too sure about shotguns; but i think bolt-actions and revolvers are a no-no.

What I'm told?

Centerfires are good.

Rimfires are not, unless specifically said. For instance, Ruger Single Six manual says it's okay to do it because of the transfer bar safety in the newer ones. H&R Pardner single shot also has a transfer bar and manual says not to dry fire without a dummy round.

What do I actually believe? Anything can break.

I use snap caps to practice malfunction drills and loading (shotguns and revolvers) so I might as well use them to dry fire. But it doesn't stop me from dry firing centerfires without them either. I mean...dang....it's part of the freaking function check.

Single Action Army revolver is not good to dry fire; I found out the hard way.
