My wife is a pre-k teacher on the east side of Athens and she just called and said they are in lockdown. Suspect was last seen not too far from her school. They are listening in on a police scanner. Some of her co-workers know the suspect and say he is crazy and already did several years in prison. This should have never happened.

Last seen driving a Silver GEO Metro tag IIRC 375 GHS or GHZ or GHX , name of perp in question Jamie Head.... "...Hood may have carjacked of stolen the Geo Prism on Epps Bridge Parkway near Windy Hill Court. Witnesses said he is bald or has close-dropped hair and barefoot, wearing blue shorts and a white T-shirt, possibly with a yellow design...." http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/032211/bre_803714148.shtml |

Quoted:
The officer in Athens who was shot to death Tuesday has been identified by police as Senior Police Officer Elmer “Buddy” Christian, a father of three.
Prayers for all of Officer Christian's family, but especialy his wife and children. Prayers sent for a speedy recovery of the other wounded officer. I heard on the radio that the 'suspect' had been out of prison for ~ 2yrs, after serving a 12 yr sentence. Not sure how accurate that is, but I sure hope this POS doesn't hurt anyone else before he's caught. |

This afternoon they were saying he was in prison for 12 - 13 years. The Atlanta news said 12 years for armed robbery. Sounds like it is pretty accurate. |

Thanks for the thoughts & concern. I am okay. Please keep the family, friends and co-workers of SPO Christian & SPO Howard in your thoughts and prayers. It is a sad day for us. Done. My thoughts are with them and I pray the perp is swiftly brought to justice. My thoughts also go out to you and your fellow officers. Be careful out there. |

Yesterday was a long day to say the least. I finally made it home about 145am and I just got called in to assist with command operations.
Last night they mentioned a trust fund being set up for SPO Christian's family(wife and 2-3 children). I'll forward that information as I get it. |

Donations to honor the memory of Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer (SPO) Elmer “Buddy” Christian may be made at Athens First Bank & Trust. Donations will be placed into a fund for the benefit of his wife and two young children. Members of the community who wish to make a donation may do so at any local branch of Athens First or may mail donations to Athens First at 150 West Hancock Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30601. The name of the account, "Buddy Christian Memorial Fund," should be indicated on donation checks. SPO Christian was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Since that time, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department has been inundated with phone calls offering support and asking where donations may be made. “We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support from the community,” said Athens-Clarke County Manager Alan Reddish. “At this time, we ask citizens to refrain from calling the Police Department, unless they have pertinent information about the shooter, in order to allow the department to focus on the search for the suspect.” For more information, please visit the Athens-Clarke County website, www.athensclarkecounty.com.
