Been thinking about putting one in, who do you guys recommend? Good or bad experiences welcome... Anything I should look out for? or Brands?
We have ADT and have been pleased. Lightning took out a sensor and alarm was getting tripped for no reason, they came out and fixed it immediately. Have never had to pay for any service charges and apparently if we move we can get the same system installed in our new house for no charge.
I just had a pretty extensive system installed in my remodel project. Every window and door is monitored as well as several motion detectors. The guy I used had been on the site working when he said he would, happily provided bio information on himself and his partner, and I've been happy with the quality of work as well as the components. All that's left to do is to hook up the system to the phone line and sign the monitoring agreement. IM me if you want his information.

If you're going to do it, do it right. Don't cheap out, or it's money wasted.
Cellular primary/backup is a must. Get perimeter protection - Preferably something that will go off when people are still outside your home, like an impact sensor. Motions only go off if someone is already in your home. Plus, you won't have them on while you are home. Don't get open/close contacts if your windows slide down from the top as well as up from the bottom. Keep in mind people breaking in don't give a shit how much damage they do to get in. If it's easier to smash out the glass and hop through, your open/close sensor won't help. Harden your entry points, reinforce your door frames and locks. Be aware of the service plan - If the system has problems, you don't want to pay $100 to get someone out to look at it. They all have problems at some point. |
Out here in Newton County, Nichols is one of the most popular installers/monitors. We own our Nichols system, but we've stayed with them for the monitoring. The only time we had a problem, it was a single false fire alarm. The very next day (my first availability), they were out to replace a resistor that tripped the system.
