Hey fellas,
looking to finger a couple long guns over the weekend and was wondering if anyone knows of a place that keeps FAL's in stock. I'm weighing out the pros/cons of the AR .308 (AR-10, etc) and an FAL and want to check out a few and see what feels better. I've been around the AR platform for a while now, so sticking with something similar would be nice, but I've always gotten a tingle when I see a nice FAL. I'm in Marietta if that matters. Thanks for the help, Wiskey |

FAL is a battle rifle, AR is a precision rifle. Folks can argue the crossover. I know. Neither will be used for it's intended purpose, as I'm not going into battle anytime soon, and I've no need for shooting 600 yards to make a ragged hole with 5 rounds. Going to be used for paper punching, and just because I can. |

I love my FAL and its a great SHTF gun...I think next to the AK/Galil they are some of the most consistent performers out there. For shooting paper targets, and given 308 is .50-.$1 a round, the AR platform is more conducive. I wonder if we could setup a HTF shoot at Pickens County or Creekside so folks could try out some of this stuff. |

I'd more than likely be pumping surplus through the FAL if I went that route, but would be running higher quality ammo through the AR if I went that way. I guess it would be more of a SHTF gun really, but also something that would be cool to have. |

FAL al the way. the only way I would give up my FAL is if someone wanted to trade it for the Israeli heavy barrel :) Just so you know, you can put Izzy light barrel stuff on your FAL. Heck, you can even buy the cheaper HB handguards and I will show you how to make them fit your FAL. That is what is on mine. Wood buttstocks are a bit tougher to find, but can be found. Several guys even make US versions. Mine has a SA long wood buttstock on it. But you know me, nothing is sacred. Use what works well and it will look good, not the other way around. |

I know I "can" but sine I didnt build mine I dont know what is 922(R) parts and what isnt. I do want to get a longer butt stock on there though. this one is a little too short and my glasses hit the top cover. any ideas which ones are longer? I also want a heavy barrel b/c the heavy barrels are much cooler! I wish I could make it to one of the FAL matches you pujt on. trying to get my buddie with the real Izzy to come too! |

Where is ya Whiskey? I'm in Dawsonville, have several to look at. My very favoritest rifle http://home.windstream.net/jbperry/4dl/Izzyshortened.jpg The brake has since been turned down to a more proper thread protector, as I despise brakes. I'm down in Marietta. Very nice rifle Sir. |

So who's got one for sale? My local shop had a Springfield for a nice chunk of change. I told you Adventure outdoors has a real heavy barrel for $1200. if you dont want a heavy barrel go buy it and I will trade you mine! I called them today and they said they'd sold it. Perhaps they don't know what they've got. I'll make a trip over tomorrow and take a look around. |

How much you looking to spend?

I can say it works as good as it looks! As for the hometown shoot, there is the annual FAL match at River Bend. Stimpsonjcat does a great job with the match. Any new tricks up your sleeve for this year?!?!? |

Any new tricks up your sleeve for this year?!?!? Tricks? me? Faster stages and more of them. Lower (but not low) round counts per stage. No running per se but definitely opportunities for shooting on the move. And of course the 100 yard highpower-like stage of humiliation. |

GA 400 Guns in Dawsonville has a DSA FAL para. I saw it on the rack today. Barrel length? How much? Saw the DSA Izzy HB at AO but too heavy to serve a purpose for me. I think stimpsonjcat's example but w/ 18" barrel and Izzy furniture would be right for me. |
