I know concealed carry is Just that, but anyone have any issues at this mall We will be in the area tomorrow and the Boss wants to stop by there tomorrow and do some shopping.
just wanted to know about the mall there and all!! |
|
do yourself a favor and stay out of that ghetto ridden, goblin infested crack house. i am not sure where you're from but there is a newer outdoor mall about 15 minutes from the old one. most of the major retailers have closed up shop and moved out there.
it is off exit 171 on i-75. -matt |

I will go against the grain here. There were a few high-profile incidents in the past but I personally think they were blown out of proportion. You should be fine if you exercise normal situational awareness and common sense. Quite frankly, I'm on the same level of alert whether I'm at Bass Pro, Riverside Mall, Macon Mall, etc.
I don't have the statistics but I'd bet that mall has a very low rate of crime, especially when compared with the adjacent areas or even the rest of Macon. The mall itself is a decent facility (meaning not run-down) but the selection and number of stores is shrinking. Once Riverside has one or two high-profile incidents, I bet it will follow the same path as Macon Mall. |

| Btw. Did I mention I f**king hate that town. The rio bravo incident still makes me sick to my stomach. I'm so glad I live in NE GA now where the complexion is much " lighter" and I know my kids when I have them don't have to be raised around the same sacks of sh*t I had to be raised around. |

"The Mall". The only place I go there is Sears and run in there and back out if I need some tools. That department is right inside the outer door. It's been a couple of years since I actually walked down the mall itself. Even then I felt I would have been underarmed with a 870 riot gun. I'm sure it's not improved.
I grew up south of Macon. It was where we went when we went to the "city". Downtown was pretty nice, lots of nice stores, good economy. Saw it turning in the late 70's. The street hoods, juke joints, racial changes, etc. I took my 18 yr old old over for Black Friday to Bass Pro, Academy, Dicks, etc. We decided to head downtown to Arvins. Hadn't been down there in years. Even worked out of the post office building on College St. off and on for several months in the mid-80's. We'd frequent several old restaurants downtown during lunch. Felt comfortable anywhere during the day but got the hell out of town at dark. Now.........WOW! Most every storefront closed. A real dump downtown. They could use the whole area for a set for one of those "what happens after society breaks down movies". At least Arvins still is the same. Best gun shop experience I've had in a while. Didn't buy a thing but sure will keep them in mind for my next Glock. |

We stuck with river crossing and Bass Pro, I mean Bass pro right up the road from the Mall the wife got to shop and I got to go to bass pro compromise is a wonderful thing.
and she loved the bass pro shop I just wish i could talk her into a trip to springfield Missouri to the Main store that place is the cats meow for sure!! it was beautiful when I was there a few years ago passing through! |
| There is absolutly nothing wrong with the Macon mall. It's no more dangerous than going to lenox. The new mall on riverside is great too, but really no reason to trash the macon mall. I've been in macon for about 3 and a half years now. Having lived in Fayetteville, Atlanta, Covington, previously; Macon is my favorite place i've ever lived. I really don't get the constant Macon bashing. You ladies act like anyone who goes downtown will be murdered and raped. In my time here knowing literally thousands of people who are dowtown everyday i don't know anyone who has been the victim of a violent crime. I think the basis of most of the Macon bashing is racisim. I think some of the post above confirm this. oh and bass pro sucks donkey balls. |

I just wanted to say, that if you are a young non-Caucasian male, and you walk through Macon Mall with a Caucasian female on your arm....... Every one you see, will feel obliged to talk your ears off until you go deaf. Other than that...I always found good deals on running shoes. As far as the Macon bashing? It's certainly not the worst place to be....but it's got infrastructure and social problems. Problems that won't be solved by fleeing Macon and shunning it.

well to be honest with me not going to the macon mall had nothing to do with to do with what might or might not be there. the deal breaker was bass pro i got to look and the wife got to shop and we didnt have to drive all that far in between them.
I mean I look at it like this now a days there is trouble almost everywhere you go, you just have to have a good situational awareness. |
| Macon Mall is not that bad, most of the hoodlums hang out at the indoor flea market across the street these days. I have to admit I fled Macon, but I only went as far as Lizella. What do I know though, I grew up in Bloomfield, even lived in Village Green for a while, so nothing really bothers me any more. We had a "drive by" not too long ago less than a 1/4mile from my house out here in the sticks. |

Im so happy that you love the city but keep walking downtown like you say and its only a matter of time. I was a nurse in the ER at the trauma center so i got to see and know the story of all the violent acts so i guess that makes me a little more informed (or biased) in you opinion. Another Story....My cousin who is an attorney and his wife bought and fixed up one of the older downtown homes. within the fist month of living there it was broken into twice. go figure! and the house is off of vineville an area at one time was nice. This is what happens to the people who are sticking around and trying to change the landscape of the city. Does it not make you wonder why there are hardly any business open in the downtown except on poplar and cherry streets? To each his own. |

I'm not saying macon doesnt have it's problems. I'm just saying that you can get around most of macon shopping, working, enjoying life, without any greater risk of being a victim of a violent crime than being other places in GA. Most of the crime in Macon, like most other places, is thugs robing, killing, and beating other thugs. It doesn't seem logical to base your opinion of a place based on one terrible crime. How long ago did the rio bravo thing happen? Maybe 5 plus years ago? |

Macon isn't the same town it was, non of the bigger cities are now. i honestly hope you stay safe there, just to many people have moved away, and are leaving that area. good luck |
