When zombies hit, this is the go-to "launcher" I think....this thing is just too cool...and for a total of like $500, thats pretty freakin' sweet.....
but I want to know the legalities of it....they sell 12 adapters, so techinally you can shoot any 12guage round out of it, but then its a weapon? I dont get it. |

That is not NFA by itself. If you want to shoot any projectiles, even chalk rounds, you have to register it as a destructive device.
I just was informed from some ATF contacts that even smoke grenades (not the 37 mm smokes) are considered DDs now due to the fuse assemblies they use. If you have noticed, most places that used to sell the ALS pull pin smoke grenades no longer sell them online. It is getting harder and harder to get anything fun these days. If I were you, I would not own a 12 gauge adapter for a 37 mm launcher as it would show intent. You have to register your launcher as a DD first. Even though you can get 12 gauge flares, it just isn't worth the hassel. You can't shoot buckshot or slugs out of the adapter anyways. It is just meant for low power loads such as 12 gauge flares, OC, bird bombs, rubber buckshot, etc. If you live on your own island, outside of US control, buy away!! |

I forget.... anyways....we have a USCG registered sailboat on Lanier, and we have 12guage flares....i was thinking this could "replace" it. You say shoot any projectiles you must register, isn't a flare a projectile??? I know CDNN sells stuff like "flame" shot gun shells, rubber ones, concussion ones....these are all 12guage.....they could be used with the adapter...you just cant shoot high power stuff such as bird/buck/real slugs out of them? why not? Is solid Al. adapter not strong enough? Im not trying to advocate doing anything illegal.....I just want to know what the hell i can do with it IF i register it as a DD |

Just for my own clarification, I f you register it as a DD isnt every projectile considered a DD hencforth requiring a seperate stamp for each projectile?
If you look in DD forum there are a ton of places that sell all sorts of reloading goodness. I want one but have no where to shoot it, same with tannerrite. |

As stated DD is $200 tax stamp. You don't have to register each projectile with a DD stamp, only the explosive ones like HE rounds, etc. Yes you can buy those in 40mm.
You can't shoot rubber buckshot, bird bombs, bolo rounds, or rubber bullets out of 37mm unless you register it. The aluminum adpaters may be able to hold the pressure of high velocity 12 gauge rounds, but the launcher instructions and the instructions for the adapter state that it isn't safe to shoot them and it could cause damage to the launcher and yourself. If you are going to have your 37mm on the boat, just get 37mm flares. Why mess with 12 gauge flares? 37mm will be brighter and shoot higher. I know a lot of this doesn't make sense, but I didn't make the rules. It is all stupid in my book. As mentioned in a previous post that someone posted, check out the DD section of the Armory for people who are experts at building DD rounds, weapons, launchers, etc. I only researched it to find out what was available, but I backed away after learning I would have to register a tax stamp to shoot anything interesting out of it. |
