GingerKid motivated me to post my first two deer I've ever shot.  Hunted a bit last year as a guest on several properties.  The only deer I saw was a doe and I let her walk since it was right before the rut.

This is the property I shot both on.  Both shot to the left pf the road on the image.

This was my first deer.  Shot him about a month ago or so.  I'm not to proud to say I completely missed on my first shot.  The second shot dropped him like a rock.  The shot was about 75 yards.  He was a big bodied deer with a small rack so really a cull buck.

This one I got about two weeks later in the same stand.  I was watching a spike walking up the road at first light.  Watched him playing for about a half hour when I noticed he had a friend out in the field, a small eight point.  The two were both at the back of the field wandering around when I noticed a third buck, quite a bit larger.  Of course, all my energy went to watching him.  I watch him moving for 15-20 minutes till he came in about 175 yards.  He presented a nice broadside so I took the shot. First shot dropped him hard.  I was told at the seer processor he was ~230 pounds.

wow. a first glance i could have sworn this thread was about you shooting a deer with a mini-gun.

a) the barrel looks like a mini gun from a breif glance
b) you got te tank under th avatar which says your in the military
c) looks like a shooting range/training area

but now i just came to the conclusion that im an idiot

It's this weapon, although a minigun would be cool!    Retired military.  I was Navy, so I didn't get to play much with personal arms.

Nice going killer especially on the second one....

The 5 y/o boy and myself watched 4 does and and an immature buck for about an hour this evening in the soybeans right before dark.

He was begging me to shoot one but I'm still waiting on big daddy.

I doubt I'll shoot a deer this year but I still have 5 or 6 weeks.

I told him he could take the 1st one he saw when he was old enough to shoot which i predict to be next year with any luck.

Thanks for all the comments.  @ treedawg> I took my daughter out last weekend and we watched an eight point wander that same property.  We watched him for about 10 minutes before he wandered off.  I've got plenty in the freezer so I'll prolly try for a doe in December, but that'll be my limit.  I've hunted several of our other stands and haven't seen anything but tracks.

Good to know I come off as a codger.  That was what I was shooting for!    Took till I was 45 to go hunting.  When Dad went hunting all he ever brought back was squirrel.  Nasty squirrel.  He just recently told me he saw deer a few times but realized he would have to hump em outa the woods and thought better of the shot.   So, I never had it in my upbringing.  After 23 years in the Navy with no real locations to hunt I finally settled in a area I could take up shooting and hunting.

Nice job!  How old is your son?  I'm slowing bringing my girlie-girl daughter around to hunting.

He is 16

He got his first deer at 14.  He never showed much interest before he was a teenager.

My 9 y/o baby girl used to have a killer  instinct. She has grown up watching me hang and clean deer. She has also consumed many times her body weight in venison from our dinner table.

The last few times I have returned home from the hunt she asks if I killed anything and seems relived when I tell her no.

I'm not going to forcibly push her in any direction on the subject but she seems to have made up her mind.

Yeah, I won't push her, but I'll sure encourage any interest!
