Been away for a while, on the other side of the globe.

We brought the GEORGIA back to homeport in her namesake state after having the ship forward deployed in the vacinity of the Indian Ocean for over a year.

It was a good nautical experience.  We left Diego Garcia, did a little mission, transited the Indian Ocean went around the horn of Africa, into the Red Sea via the Bab Al Mandeb Straits.  Made a transit of the Suez Canal into the Mediteranean, and made a brief stop in Crete.  Next was to go through the straits of Sicily, and out of the Med through the straits of Gibralter, and then pick up inpsection teams in Spain.

We did our ORSE inspection for a few days and dropped the team back off in Spain and then made our way across the Atlantic to pick up a nother inspection team and do our Tactical Readiness Evaluation.  ( I love how the Navy likes to evaluate our ability to operate a reactor safely, and assess our tactical ability after we come off of a deployment).

Then we made home port and had a week full of training, and Change of Command before really getting any down time.

It's nice to be home and have a minute to just sit and relax.

Thanks.

Yeah, she's a big girl for a submarine (560 feet long, 44 foot beam).  But she packs a bit of a punch if she ever gets to shoot.

We got to watch some of the Suez canal transit on "Para-vis".  (TV hooked up to a camera on the parascope).  Not a lot to see though.

Welcome back Doc

"Big" girl or not, I won't want to deploy on a sub.
Life on a LHA was a big enough PITA.

Over a year away from home at sea will take it's toll.

Thanks for being there and doing that.  Shore leave should be a blast.  In a past life I had a minor part in security for a sub transiting the Panama Canal.  There was more security around that boat than there is in DC.

Welcome home Sailor.
