So after finishing my first build (Spikes lower, CMMG lower parts kit, Spikes midlegnth upper) I took it to the range today, and the trigger is not resetting. It is cycling the next round, but the trigger is only reset when the charging handle is used. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Thanks in advance.. |

You probably inverted either the hammer, trigger or disconnector spring.
My first guess is the Trigger Spring. Also check the disconnector spring, I've seen people put them in upside down. My advice would be to double check your springs. If they are fine apply Lube. |

Much thanks for the help guys. I have two small springs left from when I put it together. They are both small, but one is a little bigger on one end than the other. The last two coils are a little wider. Any idea which is the right spring? The wider end goes into the cup in the back of the trigger |

Just FYI, any time you mess with a trigger group you ought to do a function test of the escapement (I love that word). Easy to do on any semi-auto... -Make sure no ammo in firearm!!! -pull trigger -keep trigger pulled to rear and either cycle action (or reset hammer with other hand if only working with the lower) -very slowly release the trigger Hammer should drop to the trigger from the sear without falling all the way forward -pull trigger hammer should release. Do it several times to be sure. I am finally working on my semi-auto Bren kit I bought like 8 years ago, I thought for sure the guy who had done the semi-auto parts conversion had made a FA trigger group until I got it all apart and reassembled. The interaction of the new sear/trigger parts was not very obvious and required the bolt carrier to be present to function properly. Trigger groups can be uber-funky things, but they all have an escapement if they are semi-auto. |
